Boy... I sent you the mask in my first answer.
Do I need to cut and chew the stake for you also? have you read the manual at all?

Hi Shohreh
Can you add your video to the top track and apply the FX Auto Exposure filter, view the video in project playback, does that improve things……..
OK lets start again….
I thought you were using the latest version X8, there may be some differences using X5.
Viewing your image of the program. To the right lower corner of the Mask panel do you have a + symbol.
If yes
Download the image provided by Asik, right click the image and choose Save Picture.
Using that + symbol add the black and white image to create the mask. It will show at the end of the list.
If you do not have the + symbol then use the image as I described earlier.
Tip go to preferences – Edit Tab and set Use Fit to Screen ad default size……

Re: [X5] How to brighten up the left half of a video?
Thanks. That's why I put "[X5]" in the title, just in case.
Indeed, the PDF I have (Corel.VideoStudio.vsx5_user_guide_en.pdf) does mention using a "+" button to add a new mask, but it's nowhere to be found in my copy of X5 because there's a bug in that release: The X button is half-hidden by the mask set; It does show through when I hover the mouse over it, but the + button isn't displayed at all, thus no way to add a new mask: Incidently, if I wanted to create my own mask, could I use Paintshop Pro, and what settings should I use?

Re: [X5] How to brighten up the left half of a video?
Hi
have you installed all patches for X5?
The + sign should be lower right of the mask panel along with a minus symbol
You can use photoshop to create a BMP, use a ratio of 16:9
but you can save the image provided by asik, and fit to screen.
The overlay white clip, adjust the size by dragging the corners, the mouse will change when selecting the little black square to distort.
Once you have set the white, replace the top clip with black
Then in project mode Edit Take a Screenshot, will create a BMP image.
Sorry have to go but will follow this up later today

Re: [X5] How to brighten up the left half of a video?
Thanks for the infos.
Yes, I ran the three SPs successively to upgrade to 15.3.0.13, but the bug is still there.

I'll get X8 and see how it goes. Thank you.

Hi
Unfortunately X8 trial is a cut down version, so may affect your edits.
earlier programs were fully functioning even though the library content may be reduced.
I will install X5, I am not sure that the Add + mask feature was available using X5
Can I ask, did you apply the Auto Exposure filter and did that improve things.
Add two copies of your video to the timeline.
Apply filters to one to enhance the speaker and stage area.
For the second video adjust the brightness to make the white screen acceptable.
Are you able to do that?
Now both clip need combining to one, this will require two masks and probably two renders.
I’ll see how I get on with X5, at least I will be able to provide a project file, which may help.

Hi Shohreh
I have installed X5, the + sign certainly shows on my version.
If you cannot see the + then you cannot add a mask to the panel.
I have tried various shortcut keys but cannot find one that activates the +
You may be best in creating two transparent PNG images, they should work as masks.
I have uploaded my attempt of editing the video, I have increased the stage brightness and contrast, decreased the screen brightness.
Being recorded in low light shows in the sharpness of the video so I applied a little sharpen filter.
