Re: Choppy Video Clip Playback
I have just downloaded the clip. The computer I am using today is not the one in my Profile, it is only a Core i3 running Win 10 64 bit, with 8 GB RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 710A graphics card.
The clip played perfectly well in both Clip and Project mode in VS X8.5 64 bit, as well in VLC player. No SmartProxy was necessary. When I say "perfectly well", though, I can only agree with Trevor's comment about the panning being far too fast. Even with the 59.94 fps frame rate, it was decidedly uncomfortable to watch. But as I say, that apart, there was no difference in playback in either Clip or Project mode.

Re: Choppy Video Clip Playback
When you say that it's "unwatchable as a clip for me in x8", I assume that you mean using either the play project or clip option within X8. This is an issue with VS going back several versions if you are applying FXs to videos. However once rendered, I've not experienced similar problems. Viewing the clip that you posted, I'd suggest the real issue with your clip is where you choose to film the soccer game from (too close) and the panning speeds (far too fast). If you can get up higher and further back to film a sports event, then the resultant clip would be much more watchable IMHO.MARTINK wrote:As I mentioned, it plays fine in Google drive and on Toshiba's media player but is unwatchable as a clip for me in x8. I still haven't heard back from Corel.

Re: Choppy Video Clip Playback
Thanks. But when I say "unwatchable," I mean it plays a few frames, then stops, plays a few more frames then stops again. The audio continues uninterrupted, however. As I mentioned, I don't have this problem at all when I play it on Google drive or Toshiba media player. So I don't think it's my less-than-stellar video taking that is the issue. I'm fine with my not being great a great videographer at soccer matches -- it's the fact that I can't play a clip that doesn't stop after a few frames, starts a little later with the same result, with the audio and video not being in sync at all.

Hi MARTINK
What you describe does sound like Smart Proxy needs using.
Yes I know you say you enabled Smart Proxy but did you create the proxy file.
There have been some users having issues where the proxy files either don’t create or are deleted when closing VS
With your clip in the timeline , right click and choose “create smart proxy”
A small double icon will show on the clip when proxy files have been created.
Go to Settings Smart Proxy – Queue Manager will show all files being created
Go to Settings – Smart Proxy Manager - Smart Proxy File Manager – will show all proxy files.
Certainly with your description of the playback this is worth double checking

Re: Choppy Video Clip Playback
Thanks.
Corel support claims that the problem is that i'm using x8 when 8.5 is needed for Windows 10. I paid for the full version of 8.5 but don't see any indication 8.5 is the version I have. Help-About shows VS Pro0 x8; it doesn't say anything about 8.5. Is that normal? I also tried to see if there were any updates to the software and was told it was up to date.
This is what I bought:
Qty. Product name Delivery
1 VideoStudio Pro X8.5
Faster and easier video-editing software Electronic Download
I got the Smart Proxy working on the files. When I play the files, though, they move in slow motion and the audio is very choppy and hard to understand. Is that normal in clip mode? They play much better on Google drive and Toshiba Media Player.
Thanks.

Re: Choppy Video Clip Playback
Go to Help/About, if the version No is 18.5.0.25 then you have VSX8.5 installed
As asik1 has already stated, your system is not powerful enough to edit MP4 video which is HD, see system requirements for minimum specs for HD editing

Re: Choppy Video Clip Playback
It says 18.5.0.23. If that's not 8.5, how do I install it? I clicked on the purchase link for 8.5.
I don't know how this compares to the processor I have. It says:
For editing of 3D and full HD video, Corel recommends an Intel Core i7 or AMD Phenom II X8 processor with Windows 7 or Windows 8 64-bit operating system and minimum 4 GB of RAM. For editing of 4K video, a 4th generation Intel Core i7 processor is highly recommended.
Corel Support has all my technical info and didn't say anything about my processor being inadequate. If that's the case, though, I'll either have to get a new computer or just get my money back from Corel.

Re: Choppy Video Clip Playback
Hi
I have just installed CVSX8 64 bit these are the patches that were installed and associated version numbers
Purchased Installed version 18.0.0.181 64 bit
First auto update SP 2 VSProX85_Update.exe to 18.5.0.23
Second auto update X8.Hot Fix to 18.5.0.25 the program is now CVSX8.5
Martink
are you saying that the program automatically tries to install a patch every time you run the program.
My purchase version was CVSX8, the first patch for me upgraded the program to CVSX8.5
This patch caused some issues with the Ultimate Bonus files, Corel provided a Hot Fix.
I assume your purchase version was CVSX8.5 as identified by the version number 18.5.0.23

Re: Choppy Video Clip Playback
Thanks. I didn't know 18.5 meant 8.5.
One other question: On an old version of VSx7.1 32-bit I have on my desktop, if I'm trying to create a video from various clips, does it matter where I save the file? Right now, it's saving to E:\Program Files\Corel\VideoStudio Ultimate X7 (Download)\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X7\. But it renders to about 18% and then crashes (freezes). Is this another problem with my computer not being adequate for high def files? The system info for my desktop is below: Thanks, as always.

So you are using the HP Pavilion desktop and not the Toshiba (with the Celeron CPU) which you show in your signature? If correct then you should update your signature. Also that HP desktop should have no problem with VS X8.5

Re: Choppy Video Clip Playback
It doesn't. It means X8.5. The X is important since in Corel's infinite wisdom they use the Roman X to indicate 10. So it is version 10+8.5 = 18.5...MARTINK wrote:Thanks. I didn't know 18.5 meant 8.5.
... though consistent with the Corel specifications, it might not be up to the job of dealing with 4K video. Dealing with 3D and full HD video would almost undoubtedly require SmartProxy for smooth editing.canuck wrote:Also that HP desktop should have no problem with VS X8.5

Re: Choppy Video Clip Playback
Thanks. I didn't update the signature b/c I was hoping to use the software on my wife's new laptop. I'm only now considering going back to my Hp Pavilion. That already has x7.1 (I believe). But it keeps crashing while "rendering." I only have about 30 gb of space left on the computer. Could that be the problem? If not, any ideas why it keeps crashing? Should I uninstall it and try to install the x8.5 version? I assume there's a way to do that even though I think my license is good for only one computer at a time.
Since the HP is old and nearly out of memory, I'm also thinking about upgrading to a new computer. I assume the Dell XPS 8700 would have no problems handling video editing, but pls tell me if I'm wrong.
Here are some of the specs:
Processor 3.6 GHz Core i7-4790
RAM 8 GB DDR3
Hard Drive 1000 GB SATA
Wireless Type 802.11bgn
Number of USB 3.0 Ports 6
Expand
Other Technical Details
Brand Name Dell
Item model number X8700-1572BLK
Operating System Windows 10
Item Dimensions L x W x H 17.49 x 7.30 x 16.01 inches
Processor Brand Intel
Processor Count 1
Hard Drive Rotational Speed 7200 RPM
Optical Drive Type DVD
I think it also has 1024MB Nvidia GeForce GT 720 graphics
Thanks again for all the help!

The old HP hardware is not the main culprit, the culprit can be crappy OS like vista, and house cleaning on the hard drive.

First you can install X7 and X8 on the same computer, many of us have several versions installed on the same pc.
However the EULA only allows you to install one video studio program, lets say X7 on one computer,
You should not install on a second computer, at least that’s what the EULA indicates.
How Corel know if the program is used more than one pc is……????
Unofficially I have installed X8 on my wifes laptop and my desktop, but only use one at a time, or indeed for testing purposes. I have never had issues registering the programs, I always use the same e-mail address for that.
I would install X8 on the laptop with the intension of removing from the desktop, once proven it works ok on the laptop.
Also install the same types 32bit or 64 bit versions.
Ok
Crashes whilst rendering can be caused by many factors.
I would first look at your project content.
Video Studio X7 had a lot of issues using Mpeg4 video, Corel did provide a few Hot Fixes, and I assume now part of the Service Packs
Things to consider………….
Make sure you are using Quicktime latest version.
Audio
X7 uses Smart Sound auto music, X8 does not use Smart Sound but ScoreFitter a different type of auto music., so if your X7 projects use Smart Sound then you will have some issues using those projects with X8.
Sorry I cannot comment on computer specifications or their functionality my brain does not go that far.
X7 rashes
You are best to provide details of the projects content, the files used and any filters applied. Give details of the video files properties.
Do the crashes always happen at the same point?
Have you updated X7 with all service packs?
HP Pavilion, clean it up to create more space, uninstall unused programs
Corel Video Studio saves the Setup files on your pc, maybe 1.5 Gb+, the Setup files can be deleted / removed, gives you a little more space.
