X8: Files won't save
I downloaded the new X8 last week and loved if for the first few days. Had a lot of fun exploring all the new features. I do some at home graphic work as well so I use this program almost daily. It now has stopped saving my files. If I want to override an old file with just "save" it works. But if I create something new and want to save it with a new name it won't save. I get a pop up that says "Unable to create the file". Has anyone else had this problem? I've tried uninstalling the program and installing it again but it's still doing the same thing. I'm unsure where to even start to find the problem. Thank you for any advice.

Hi Joalrog,
are you able to save files in others programs (for example when you are in Word and save a text) ?

Yes, I am able to save with other programs. I even installed my older version that I own, X2 and that one saves with no problems. I also use Open Office with no problems.

Re: X8: Files won't save
You could try resetting the workspace as that sometimes fixes a multitude of issues. If you go with option #2 be sure to be sure to save your workspace prior to resetting if you have made any customization you don't want to lose. The link is for X6 but the same process will work with X8.

Re: X8: Files won't save
Well, I celebrated too fast. It saved the first few things I worked with and now it's doing the same thing. lol At least now I know it's a X8 thing and not my computer.
What's too bad is, the stuff I saved in X8 won't open in X2. Argh!!

Re: X8: Files won't save
In that case I would contact Corel and issue a support ticket as it sounds like you are within 30 days of purchase.
Also, if you are saving as a pspimage file you can click on the Options button to select compatibility with an earlier version.

Re: X8: Files won't save
Hello,
Sorry you are are having probs.
This isn't neccessarily a PSP prob. My hunch is that hunch is that's it's going to be some sort of miss match between the the PSP install and the underlying OS. I don't know your level of technical skill, but my first port of call would be to get hold of procmon from Microsoft (free download), run this as admin then filter against the psp executable. This will now log every file, device and registry interaction that it's making. The trick is to make sure you enable logging just befor you try to save and disable after.
My hunch is that you'll find a failed to either write or open a file.
Appreciate it is a different product, but had to fix a friends PSE installation last year after she'd upgraded from win7 to win8. There was a permission change in appdata (MS made it more secure) that stopped some of the functions of PSE working. Procmon was able to show me the denies when it tried to write to this folder. As a note of precaution, this was a big job. It meant lots of repeated attempts and trawling thousands of lines of log files until I spotted the culprit.
Cheers

Re: X8: Files won't save
Hello
Missed off another key idea. Might be worth checking your antivirus isn't stopping it. Either exclude the PSP binary, plus any folder you are writing to, or temporarily switch off your AV and test.
