Hello,
I am unable to import an avi file as a video file when editing. Some of these files are generated through CamStudio using CanStudio's codec. How can i fix this.
Chris

Re: Can't Import an avi file as a Video
Hi Chris
I would assume it’s the codec used in Cam Studio that’s the problem.
Their web site http://camstudio.org/ does give some info on converting the Avi to SWF for media streaming, not that that would help you.
They do recommend recording using Best Quality when intending to make a DVD, whether that uses a different codec???????????
The Microsoft Video 1 codec is the standard one for AVI video, Video Studio has no problems with that. Unfortunately Cam Studio uses their own Codec.
You may be best contacting Cam Studio for their comments.
AVI is just a wrapper containing the codec, there are some 800 varieties of Avi.
Dvd uses MPEG2 codec, so your footage has to be concerted to Mpeg2 in order to burn a DVD.
Using another Video Converter to create those Mpeg2, then edit using Video Studio.
Format Factory seems pretty good, take care installing as it likes to install other unwanted bits and pieces, otherwise its ok.
Hope this helps

When I had this problem, I just recoded AVI to AVI using Video to Video, a free and excellent program, and. then there was no problem.
Re: Can't Import an avi file as a Video
Thanks for the help, using a different codec helps. Until now i was confined to using CamStudio's codec and am now able to use other options. CSS

Latest edition of CamStudio (v2.6) shows it's encoder as Microsoft Video 1.
And the is NO spyware/viruses/whatever in CamStudio. It's an excellent program for screen capture.
Output AVI is of great quality.
Cutting/editing this video in VideoStudio 2019 works well.
HOWEVER, the output quality sucks. The output is severely degraded.
Using Microsoft Video 1 as the compressor.
WHY is the quality so low?? And why does it have to render at all. I'm just cutting parts out of the file and outputting it.

It's very simple, if you didn't configured MS1 to 100% Q , you will get crap.Zardiw wrote:Latest edition of CamStudio (v2.6) shows it's encoder as Microsoft Video 1.
