Post by rajeevmgarg »

Hi,
I have been trying to load a 46 GB XAVC S 4K file recorded on sony FDR AX 33, but videostudio pro x8 crashes everytime.

I also tried to trim the file in Playmemories software by sony in to 500 mb clips and tried to load it even then it crashes.
Kindly, HELP.

How can we help?
Non of us ever tried such tiny 46G file.
if you will share a small segment of it we could try reload it on our systems.

I suspect asik was trying to be funny! But it would indeed be useful if we could get a sample of the video. Personally I have only one quite small (86 MB) XAVC-S sample clip (1920 x 1080p; 50 fps; bitrate 19.5 Mbps) and it can be loaded and plays fine in X8.5 64 bit. But that is to say it is not a 4K clip

It might also be useful if rajeevmgarg could tell us what 4K settings he had his camera set to use...

I have the same issue. However, Corel states in the specifications for Videostudio Ultimate X8 that is will import XAVC files and can "Export" XAVC S files. I am assuming that VS Pro X8 has a similar specification. I can import short clips but once two or three are imported, VS will crash. I have a 44GB file that makes it crash immediately. I have an open case with Corel on this issue. I'm wondering if Pinnacle has the same problem... I don't want to have to pay the price of Sony software.

Update: I went to Preferences and set on Smart Proxie and enabled all hardware acceleration and it loaded the large file and played it. But that setting has to be enabled for each project individually. Also, it did not work for the smaller files that were only two minutes long.

I installed the trial version of Sony Movie Studio 13 Suite and it has absolutely no problems with the files, although it creates the proxies first before allowing one to play them. (this can take quite a while on large files.) Don't like Sony's UI. I would rather Corel fix Videostudio.

So why do you shoot such large files?
What are they?

Live music. The point is, it has an issue reading XAVC S codec. Corel has answered my email and I'm going to see if their suggestions actually work.

This seems to work so far....
Install ffdshow tryouts
Install Xvid 1.3.3 http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/

Restart Videostudio and don't forget to enable smart proxy.

New desktop now.

i7 4790, 12gig ram, Win 10, 2TB HDD and will be installing a SSD for proxie files.

Problem is, ffdshow now shows up under Settings Apps as Unavailable. Several uninstalls and reinstalls have not helped. It looks like that massive build 1511 that Microsoft pushed out might be the culprit. As ffdshow was last updated in 2014 it probably wasn't even testted with Win 10 beta editions.

Corel needs to build XAVC S support into the Video Studio and not rely on freeware/shareware that is not being maintained.

Thanks,
Art

Thanks for the advice, Art. I've drawn this to the attention of relevant Corel execs who look after the development of VS.

In the meantime, when you say the "Settings Apps", what are you referring to and where did you find it?

Windows 10 "Settings" "Apps."
VS 8.5 will load the 4K video but the video portion lags behind the audio (in the preview window.) This isn't a problem with short clips.

I hate to mention the competitor, but Sony Movie Studio 13 plays the giant 4K video just fine. It automatically renders proxies for 4K. But I much prefer the UI within VS. Also, Sony is leaning too much on OpenCL for rendering which puts a lot of the Nvidia GPU boards off the table for their product. My board doesn't support OpenCL, just OpenGL . If it makes you feel better, Sony Catalyst will only run once before crashing due to the lack of OpenCL support on my GPU and won't start again after that. At least Corel has not forced very expensive hardware upgrades on their users.

Thanks for the update Ken.

I am 99% sure that that "Unavailable" is not saying the app is not accessible any longer (in that sense of the word meaning it is not available). Rather, looking at other apps I have installed in Win 10 and which definitely work, I see quite a few which also have Unavailable listed with them, either under the name of the app (which is where the developer of the App is normally named) or over to its right where the size is normally given. My entry for Haali Media Splitter, for instance has not one but two "Unavailable" for both developer and size. Yet it most definitely works as I would not be able to play/edit Matroska .mkv clips if it did not.

In other words, I suspect that ffdshow is definitely still working, only Win 10 can't detect who its developer is as that information is "unavailable"...

Possibly as VideoStudio is still working. The "Unavailable" is where the Creator/Provider would normally be shown. I noticed that FastStone Image Viewer has "Unavailable" where the size should be. I have the same thing showing up for Haali Media Splitter, Unavailable developer and size. Windows 10 gives a lot of false alarms it seems...
