Smart Fill

Post by leahcimi »

Smart Fill works pretty well for the most part but can get caught out at times. It would be much improved if, like InPaint, it allowed selction of source material for the 'fill' from elsewhere in the image.
Does anyone else feel this or am I being over fussy?

If it helps. PSP ignores transparent areas. So like Photoshop if you want to limit the sample area, you just have to hide the sample area.

Do this

1) Duplicate the layer so you're working on a copy

2) Select the area you want to fill with the Magic Fill.

3) Making sure the selection tool is set to "Add" select the area you want to use as a reference.

4) Invert the selection to select everything else.

5) Hit delete the clear everything else.

6) Invert the selection again

7) Remove the selection from around the source material.

So long as the source material matches in edges around the selection it should only use the available area to fill in the selection. Yes it takes more work than it does in InPaint but it also gets what you want done. They may take you up on your suggestion but for now that's a workaround.
