In X8, how to resize with a script a photo to 1200 pixels wide AND 72 DPI?
Until X7, it was possible to fix the DPI in all versions.
This possibility (DPI) is removed from X8.
In the EXIF values, resolution in DPI is shown but PSP doesn't permit to modify those values.

Re: DPI setting removed from X8
It's still there under the "by print size option". If I'm not mistaken DPI only pertains to printing so that would make sense.

Yes, but in X7, and before, you were able to resize at x pixels WITH x DPI.Kathy_9 wrote:It's still there under the "by print size option". If I'm not mistaken DPI only pertains to printing so that would make sense.
This is needed for web publication or when you send images to people and you don't want they use your photos other than on screen.
In previous PSP versions, it was possible to fix the DPI when resizing with pixels.
I know it still exists in Resize for printing but in Resize for printing, it is not possible to fix the pixels size.
And it is not possible in X8 to write a script fixing the DPI when resizing (it was possible in X7 and previous versions).
I'm searching for a solution...

Re: DPI setting removed from X8
You don't need DPI for publishing to the web. In digital format the DPI is meaningless. It only matters when being printed. And if you don't want someone to print your image again the DPI doesn't matter because it's just a number inside the image. The pixels don't change. I can change the DPI without changing the pixels or I can print an image at a specific DPI inspite of the DPI set inside the image itself. If there are enough pixels then the DPI won't matter in the least. Since you're setting the pixels the DPI is pointless.
But to answer your question, first select "By Print Size" and set the DPI, then move back to "By Pixel" and select the pixels. Hit Resize and it'll change both the pixels and the DPI at the same time. Just like before, but with a few more clicks, just tested it myself to be sure.

Re: DPI setting removed from X8
It is a very interesting subject...
We are just discussing it on the French forum.
I'm the opinion (like you) that DPI in the image is irrelevant if you don't print them. Only pixels dimension counts.
But the user with this "problem" on the French group says he cannot make a script for changing the pixels dimensions AND fix the DPI.
We are still discussing and showing examples, etc.
And we had a big surprise.
The two files for testing are on the bottom (too big for this forum).
They don't show the same number of pixels in different softwares!
They should show 1200x798 pixels (but a different DPI : 72 and 300)
Inside PSP, they show different size on screen (!) : 850 wide for the 300 dpi
But inside PhotoPaint 5, they show both 1200x798
Very strange...
The 300 dpi file:

The 72 dpi file :

Oooops !
Forget my example files.
It seems I have resized one inadvertently.
In my previous message, delete all after "And we had a big surprise".

Re: DPI setting removed from X8
Well I wanted to show this. I made a video, don't know how much English the person knows so maybe the video will be useless.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8FlFL ... BfSW8/view
But there is the resize command I used in the video to accomplish what I think you're wanting.
So I can script it just fine. This was actually recorded right from PSP, I did not manually script this.

But there is the resize command I used in the video to accomplish what I think you're wanting.
Code: Select all

'CurrentResolutionUnits': App.Constants.ResolutionUnits.PixelsPerIn,

Thank you Levifiction.
It is not difficult to understand.
I'll transmit your video and script to the person.
And tell you if he have success...
