Hi,
When preparing a film clip for pal DVD, I always take my AVCHD/h.264 original into a project, edit, enhance and proceed to make another quality AVCHD clip. From this new AVCHD clip, I convert to a 2-pass MPEG2 (7250kbps) and proceed to make my DVD. I have found this method eliminates "mosquito noise" but I still feel there room for improvement. ( I used to make a MPEG2 clip directly from the project)
2 questions please.
1/ Is there another method of conversion/workaround that could yield higher quality MPEG2? e.g. convert AVCHD to AVI to MPEG2?
2/ Is there a recommended professional standalone product that could take the AVCHD clip and re-encode a quality MPEG2?
Thanks
AVCHD to MPEG2

AVCHD is a lossy format, so if you save it you lose a little quality, save it twice you lose another little bit.
It is for you to decide on whether you can tell the difference.
The fewer transcodes you do the better, so I wouldn't go AVCHD > AVI > MPEG2
Commercial quality
Elemental Server
Sorenson Squeeze

Hi
Before rendering the Avchd to Mpeg2 set “Best” as the Resampling Quality via F6 Edit tab (Preferences)
That seems to improve quality, I would be interested with your results.
I assume your AVCHD video is using 25 fps (50i) and not 50P

Re: AVCHD to MPEG2
Thanks for your replies.
I always set the re-encoding to "Best" and the AVCHD original is 1080/25p.
I can't understand how some standard definition DVDs that are purchased can almost look like HD. I understand there are multiple £££s and multiple passes involved but it always good to try and improve.

In addition, commercial DVDs are pressed from a master and not burnt...I understand there are multiple £££s and multiple passes involved but it always good to try and improve.
