How Do I Stop Corel NAGWARE?

Post by tooloose_letrek »

I am a long time user (fifteen years) of both CorelDraw and PSP and have purchased many upgrades. I am getting a non-stop flow of annoying nagware from Corel, a pop-up box for PSP X8. I currently have PSP X7. I will decide on my own if and when I want to upgrade and all the spam from Corel is having an opposite affect on me. I like PSP, but also have Adobe Creative Suite (incl. Photoshop and Illustrator), Adobe Lightroom, and Adobe Elements.

I want to STOP the nagware. I have the msg preference box unchecked, indicating I do not want ads from Corel. Also, I have tried blocking Corel products with my firewall and the ads keep coming. There is a check box on the pop-up that I check if I do not want these ads...but it is disabled. In fact, it has been disabled for the past two upgrades I purchased. Does anybody know how I can turn on my ability to just say 'no' to the spam? And better yet, WHY is it disabled? When I install the software I am careful to make sure I'm not giving Corel my permission to spam me.

I'm thinking of getting the Photoshop Elements upgrade (on sale this week) but I'd rather stick with PSP.

I'm in touch with PSP technical help but they are not helping at all. The link they provided to a forum does not indicate how to stop the spam.

There is a messages folder where Corel saves all of its ads. Sometimes they get stuck and the software just keeps pulling them up. Don't know why, if it's by design or just a bug.

C:\ProgramData\Corel\Messages

Just delete all of the folders in there. With messages turned off it shouldn't pull any more down.

To go a bit further, I purchased PSP X8 and Corel Pinnacle Studio 18 (updated to 18.6) and I continue to receive emails offering me fantastic prices to upgrade. I already did - don't these people have an integrated database that shows this? I take it that I am not the only one who is getting these. And after the 30 days support period, I expect that one has to pay to complain. I want to receive information about updates and special offers, just not for the ones that I already have. How can I stop this? Why do I even have to do anything to stop this?
