I have a similar problem about every 3-5 minutes program not responding. Running win 10. Computer hp 17" touch screen 64 bit 1tb hard drive using video studio ultimate 8.5. My mescaline does not work and a couple of other proDAD have license issue.

That is weird. I installed win 10 and my x7 would not work. Called Corel and I was told x7 was not compatible with win 10. So I upgraded to 8.5 ultimate and now video studio crashes every five minutes. No solution yet.

Just to be even clearer, the X7 I was referring to in the last post was PSP X7 and not VS X7. (Levi Fiction is a regular contributor on the PSP forum.) And FWIW both PSP X7 and X8 as well as VS X8.5 continue to work just fine on my Windows 10 computer. I have not had one crash with any of them.

Sorry if I got confused with similar versions of different products but I still have an issue with vs 8.5. I got on the list for the free upgrade to win 10 and installed it when I got the notice. After the install my existing vs ultimate x7 would not work. I contacted Corel and was informed that vs v7 was not compatible with win 10. I decided to upgrade to vs 8.5. After the install a few things would not work and I found out today on this forum there was a license issue with proDAD and a quick fix was available it worked great. My only remaining issue is that vs v8.5 hangs every 3-5 mins. I freed up as much memory as I could but problem still exists. All was well with win 8.1 and vs v7. I really don't know what to try next. I have a 64 bit system 1 tb hard drive, 16 gig ram, navida video card on an HP youch laptop. Appreciate any constrictive ideas.

I can't think of what to say... I upgraded several computers to Win 10. This one, which is my main video editing (and graphics) computer already had VS X8 and X7 as well as PSP X7 and X6 on it when I upgraded it to Win 10. All those programs continue to work just fine. I have used VS X8 and now X8.5 several times under the new OS with absolutely no problem. I no longer use VS X7 though keep it in case I need to use it to help out with user questions. But I have fired it up again in response to your own query, and have been running a project on it, and rendering it to test it out (again). It continues to run seemingly perfectly.

Just on the confusion side of things, the version number is X8.5 not just 8.5... Corel added the Roman X (denoting 10) from version X2 (12) onwards. Version 8 came out over 12 years ago, and there never was a plain old 8.5...

Video Studio X8.5 Stops Responding

Post by Johnmacneill2471 »

i have an upgraded copy of Video Studio Ultimate V8.5 from Video Studio V7. The upgrade took place after I was told by a Corel employee that VS V7 was not compatible with my new upgrade to win 10 from win 8.1. Since then proDAD fx would not work and VS V8.5 would crash every 3-5 min. Yesterday Corel issued a hot fix for proDAD and now that works fine but the program still crashes or stops responding. All my other software seems to be working fine just VS V8.5. I have an HP 17" touch laptop with 64bit, ram 32 and 1 TB Hard Drive, navidia video card. Everything worked great until I upgraded to win 10 and VS V8.5. It's very difficult to work in three minutes blocks having to save every 30 seconds or so and re loading VS every 3-5 min. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Corel Video Studio (any version), does not work on windows 10 if win10 is a fresh install...not upgraded.

Corel is going to have to do some work here (I hope) to get this working since windows 10 is everywhere now.

If you did the free upgrade to windows 10 and already had corel installed prior to the windows 10 upgrade, its a 50/50 chance corel will work flawlessly.
But it will not work at all if windows 10 is a fresh install (untill corel gets an update out).

Hope that helps.

I'd disagree with this Robotics.
I do beta testing for both companies. I had VS X8 working flawlessly on win 10 well before release and only on fresh installs.
In fact Corel had problems that I checked up on and couldn't replicate on my machine it worked so well.

What problems are you facing?

Although some users, including myself, felt that X8 was already compatible with Win 10 when the final version of it was released, others had problems. Corel also felt that one or two issues needed fixing and brought out the update to X8.5 to achieve this. So I guess you could say that VS became fully compatible with Win 10 at that point -- although some users continue to have problems.

I suspect that the current trial version of VS is already X8.5 although it is difficult to tell since the splash screen is still for X8, even though the version number begins with 18.5.X.XX where the '5' indicates that it is 8.5.

I am still having crash issues and it appears to be the Intel video card on my system. I have two cards Intel and Navida. Navida Is the better card but I cannot get vs 8.5 to utilize that card even though I right click and select use Navida it still seems to revert back to Intel. I'm at a loss as to what to do. Changing Video editors' might resolve the issue. That's where I am at now

Now you have me wondering if that may be my issue. I to have Intel graphics. I had windows 10 for awhile till I found out Video Studio doesn't work on it (for me) so I actually went back to windows 7 since I use the Video Studio several times a week if not more. I do know that my Intel drivers are up to date per Intel's web site, so I'm not sure what is going on. I have no problem staying with Windows 7 anyway.
Don't quite like 10 or all the stuff it does in the background.

I upgraded to Ultimate 8 around the same time I finally upgraded Windows 10. I couldn't get any work done with my Ultimate 8 because it continually put my computer in some loop and every time I had to manually turn my computer off and reboot it. So I finally just gave up and went back to using my pro 6x. But, that too now crashes. Perhaps my only fix is to uninstall Windows 10 so I can get some work done. Corel doesn't seem to think there's a problem. They're fine with selling a product but don't care about fixing it. Should I go back to Windows 7 so at least my pro 6x works?

Hi jpheilbrun

For what its worth I also upgraded to Windows 10
Yes I had various problems with Windows 10 but feel it may have been my old PC main board and graphics compatibility.

I have to say I did not have problems using Video Studio that weren’t part of the Windows 10 experience.
Windows Explorer freezing to Black screen, restart and work ok till the next time, tomorrow or maybe a few days, but always froze, no error messages – It was a problem I could not live with.
Certainly NOT caused by Video Studio.

I did try Windows 10 three times eventually with a clean install, I’m back with Windows 7 and disabled the auto update to 10.

A clean installation of your operating system may work wonders, buts that's your choice of course.

And I can only add that I continue to have no problems at all with either X8 or X8.5 on my Win 10 setup. Indeed, X7 and X6 also appear to work just fine in Win 10, not just on this computer but others which I have upgraded to Win 10.

If you haven't upgraded to X8.5, try it and see if that changes things for you. Moreover, it's free.
