With X8 now out.

Post by carl365 »

Maybe a rather strange question, does the developers of PSP make small tweaks down the line to X8, say in a month, two, three, after seeing feedback and real time performance? I guess this is a long way of saying, is it wise to wait a while before buying?

I suppose this can apply to Win 10 too.

Thanks!

Corel does develop patches for their latest releases in an attempt to fix bugs and performance issues but not usually to add new features to that version. These patches are free to download and install.

As for Windows 10, I assume Microsoft will also support it with updates as they have with previous operating systems. The only problem with installing Windows 10 at the present time is that some users (but not all) complain that some of their software doesn't seem to work or work properly under Windows 10. Because some people don't seem to have a problem with a piece of software that others report problems with the problems could be system specific. So if you're concerned that you "might" encounter compatibility issues with some software then installing Win 10 can be an iffy proposition.

My own personal thoughts about upgrading various program software at this time is that unless I see a need for the new features in the present newer software release it might be smart to wait until the next version of the software is released some time in the future. Because Win 10 will be more widespread by then I would expect that software released over the next year will possibly be coded better for compatibility with Win 10. JMHO, of course.

JoeB

Thanks JoeB, good to know about the patches. Think I'll wait for a while on X8, main reason is I'm so new, I won't realize or need most of what's built into any version of PSP and my needs are very basic. Now as for Win 10, I have the version reserved and can install at anytime but, I have three movie editors besides PSP that concern me, so probably best to wait on Win 10 until there's better or more surer news in the future.

Thanks!

FWIW, I have installed Win 10 on 6 of my computers, and seem to be in the lucky position of everything working fine that was already on them before the upgrade to Win 10. One minor graphics driver problem on one older computer, but that was curiously enough rectified by reinstalling the original graphics driver which came with the computer back in the day when it ran Vista!!

Thanks Ken, that reassures me further, yeah I have Corel's VideoStudio movie editor and two others, I sure hope they all run without any problems on Win 10, I'd love to go Win 10.

Two things to try when you have questions about your programs being compatible with Windows 10:
  1. Contact the vendor of your program and ask if it's compatible.
  2. Use the Windows 10 Compatibility Center to see if programs you have are compatible:

Yes, I think it can be eeeeeasily done...

Totally off-topic, but 6 of your computers? And, it sounds like you may have more than 6. Large family?
PSPX9 | PSP2020 | PSP2021| PSP2022 | PSP2023 & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX | PSPX2 thru PSP2019 owned but not installed

Yep... 13 in all if you count my smartphone, an Android tablet, a Win 8.1 tablet and two netbooks, only one of which I have upgraded to Win 10. The others are all still running XP...

Hi all, just a quick note to let you know that in terms of compatibility with Windows 10, PaintShop Pro X8 is certified for Windows 10. Here's a link that shows a list of Corel software compatible with Windows 10 and PaintShop Pro X8 will be added to this list shortly. http://corl.co/1I8A4o7

Thanks photodrawken and Alex for the tips on the compatibility lists. I was initially unsure if I'll upgrade yet or not but after seeing all my programs were good for compatibility, I clicked the upgrade icon in the tray.

Happy to say everything went perfect, not even the slightest glitch in anything. Only thing I don't know about is the MS Edge browser, especially the way the favorites is laid out. Perhaps takes some getting used to it.

Thanks!
