Another Difference (bug?) in X8

Post by mallen1330 »

Using the clone tool, before, if I selected the size value on the clone toolbar, then I used the mouse center wheel to adjust the size to exactly what I wanted. Now, the mouse wheel zooms the image instead.

That still works for me the exact same way, as long as the focus is on that setting. If you start cloning and want to change the size of the tip by using the wheel, the focus has been lost from the size setting and has shifted to the image so the image will zoom in and out.

I tried it and got the exact same behavior in 9, X7 and X8.

Do you hold the Alt key when you try to change the size with the scroll wheel?
That's what I have always done :-)

No, I don't do Ctrl + scroll wheel. And, No, I did not focus on the image window first. I select the clone tool size then the very next thing is to move the wheel. The image zooms instead of changing the clone brush size -- even when the pointer cursor is not on or near the image window.

It appears that the difference is that as soon as I move the cursor off the toolbar, it automatically sets the focus to the image window (before I had to actually click-select the image to change-set the focus. So as long as I keep the cursor over the size field, the mouse wheel changes the size value. As soon as I move it away, the wheel zooms the image. In previous versions, I could change the size AND see, in the image, the outline of the brush so that I could get it to exactly the size I want visually.

That doesn't happen to me using the clone brush. If I start by clicking on the size box and scroll the size changes. Then if I move my cursor to the image I see the circular clone brush and if I use the scroll wheel the size of the brush continues to change. It's only when I click on the image that the scroll wheel will change the image size. Putting focus back on the Size box allows me to again use the scroll wheel to change brush size.

I am using Windows 8.1. Perhaps the fact that you are using Win 10 is a factor?? Joëlle and Cassel are both using Win 7. Perhaps others using Win 10 and PSP X8 can chime in as to whether they have your problem.

I get exactly the same as Mallen on my PSP X8 on Win 10 Home, both with regard to zooming the image rather than the size of the tool when scrolling the wheel over the image, and changing the size of the tool when the cursor is focused on the toolbar size window. And yes, even with the tool outside the image entirely, scrolling the mouse makes the image zoom in or out. Holding the Alt key appears to make no difference to anything...

And how does the scroll work for you with the same PSP but other than Win 10 OS?

For me on XP and Win 7 and Win8
PSP X7 and X8

All brush tools - Paintbrush, Clone brush, Eraser , Blemish Fixer
Click inside the size adjustment and that becomes the active part for the mouse wheel.
Move the cursor over the image and roll the mouse wheel and the size changes up or down depending on the rotation direction.
Hit the Alt key and and roll the wheel and the image pans in and out. Hit the Alt key again and the size box becomes active again.
Hold the Alt key down and move the cursor up and the brush gets smaller and down and the brush gets larger.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

Can't test X8 on earlier versions of Windows. But, I just tried X7 on Windows 10 -- same problem. So, I beginning to assume this is a Windows 10 "enhancement", or quirk that affects long standing PSP code.

Well, so far with the few responses we have in this thread, it would seem that the issue is related to WIN 10, because those few of us with earlier version of Windows are getting normal behavior for the scroll wheel. If this is a correct assumption then it would appear that what is considered WIN 10 compatibility does not necessarily mean that all operations of a program are compatible, just that the program will open and work to a large - but not necessarily complete - extent.

Hi all new to the forum, I have just found out if you go to windows settings -mouse & touchpad and turn off "scroll inactive windows when I hover over them" the scroll wheel the adjusts the size of the brush when size is selected
