Re: "File Save" does "Save-As" instead
Yes using X2 is the better option. xD
I'm not sure I understand the objection, as the script doesn't force you to save after using the crop tool. It just saves and closes for you when you run it. And if you mean you want the option to save without forcing the image closed, that's actually why I kept the script so simple Hartpaul. It's easy to just not include the "FileClose" option. In fact in the script topic I created I made two scripts available for download one that saves and closes the image and one that just saves the image. I have personally, not saying anyone else should do this, used both. I added moved the Ctrl + S shortcut to my save script. And Ctrl + Shift + S to my save and close script. This way I can save and continue working or save and close.
EDIT: I made the script a little smarter. It now lets you set the compression level of the JPG to whatever default you want. This includes the chromasubsampling, whether or not EXIF information and ICC profiles are saved. If you aren't saving as a JPG it just runs normal save. And if it's a brand new image it runs Save As like it should. So it's a more complete workaround.

Does anyone want to comment about if and how SP 1 addresses this issue?

Is it exactly as it was before? Better than before? What is once per session?Adjust workspace: Restored ability to set Save As option once per session (dialog box does not open for each photo edited)

I got so frustrated with this that I went back to using X7. Hope they change this back.

As far as I can tell it has not changed.[Mike] wrote:Does anyone want to comment about if and how SP 1 addresses this issue?

I wrote to Corel earlier that I would be happy if PSP satisfied three criteria:
1. Allow setting the Save compression, for instance having the setting in Preferences.
2. The first time a Save is used in a session inform the user what the setting is - a heads up so there is not a surprise and allow a change if desired.
3. All subsequent Saves within the session (before PSP is closed) require one click only.
This is separate from "Save As" which seems to work o.k.

Just curious, mark. Did you test this in Edit? or Adjust? As they only indicated that this change is only for the Adjust workspace not the standard Edit workspace.

I tested only in Edit. I did not read the notes about 8.1 in any detail so was not aware of the claims for Adjust. Also, I never use Adjust other than to test occasionally when a new version comes out so am not at all aware of what happens with that feature.
The poor implementation of "Save" since many versions ago has really bugged me, particularly in the last few months when I've used it much more frequently than in the past, so I've written to Joseph about the issue a number of times.

I never use Adjust, only Edit. So this does not look good at all.

Re: "File Save" does "Save-As" instead
I installed the trial, which has been updated to include the service pack. I loaded a bunch of images and made changes in Edit mode. Closed the first, Save As dialog comes up. Closed the second, Save As dialog comes up... Same with third. So for Edit mode, this SP changes nothing. I wonder why there are still two buttons in PSP, one for Save and one for Save As, they do exactly the same thing if you work like I do. Uninstalled trial.[Mike] wrote:I never use Adjust, only Edit. Re: "File Save" does "Save-As" instead
Not exactly the same thing. The Save As dialog only pops up when you click save if 1) You're saving to JPG and 2) It's the first time you've saved the image. As this topic has mentioned, they did this to allow you to set the compression setting so that you don't automatically hit save and lose image size as so many people seem to do the first time they use PSP.
If you are doing a large edit and making progressive saves, the Save button will only pop up the Save As dialog once. While annoying for most everyone. It's for everyone who only ever saves ones that this becomes the biggest nuisance.

Just to let you know, issue was already addressed after release of PSPX8, and has been addressed again after SP 1.

Apparently you don't understand the problem. SP 1 still does "Save As" instead of a straight "Save" for each and every image edited. The means several extra steps for each image. For those of us that edit a couple hundred images each evening, this is an unacceptable bother. We continue to use X7 because of this bug.

As I said, "if you work like I do"...Not exactly the same thing. ...
Care to elaborate on how this was addressed exactly, twice?Just to let you know, issue was already addressed after release of PSPX8, and has been addressed again after SP 1.
How can it be such a challenge to properly address this?
Add a setting to PSP: old style save vs. new style save.
Add another setting to PSP for old style save. Predefined compression percentage vs. custom percentage.
We're not asking for miracles here. Just proper saving functionality. Seems like such a basic thing compared to some of the other things PSP can do. Surely someone at Corel can implement this quickly and efficiently?

Re: "File Save" does "Save-As" instead
This new behavior is absolutely unacceptable. I've been using PSP for as long as it's been around and frequently make minor changes to lots of images. As long I have to go through pointless extra steps to save an image I might as well use GIMP and not pay for the privilege. Very sad.
