downloading trial versions
Two days ago I downloaded it and installed the trial version of Paint Shop Pro X8. I am running Windows 8.1 64 bit edition and the 64 bit edition of Paint Shop Pro X8 is what was downloaded and installed. Because most of the Photoshop plug-ins will not work with the 64 bit editions I have been trying to download the 32-bit edition of Paint Shop Pro X8, but have not been able to do so. I always like to try before buy. I remember how awful excel in water before service pack one was released.

Re: downloading trial versions
When you are installing you are given the option to install both 32-bit and 64-bit (recommended) or just the 32-bit or 64-bit version. It's all part of the same download.

Re: downloading trial versions
When installing the Paint Shop Pro X8, I was not given those options as when I was installing X6 and X7. I've just uninstalled and reinstalled and still mall I get is the 64 bit edition. Now this whole thing seems a bit strange because there are indications that all is necessary for prominent edition is a purchased serial number.
What if I use the cleanup tool and re-downloading installation?

Re: downloading trial versions
What is the size of the downloaded exe file for installation? In my case, for the full PSP X8, it was 289 MB and this produced, as Kathy has already said, a choice between both 32 bit and/or 64 bit.

Re: downloading trial versions
I didn't pay attention to the filesize.
But I did not get the option of 32-bit 32/64-bit or 64-bit while installing the trial version.
It comes as a 64-bit version, so not handy if you want to test filters.
With the full version you will get the choice, I am told, as you had with X6 and X7.

Re: downloading trial versions
Don't you still have the file you downloaded in your Downloads folder? If so, simply hover your mouse over it or right click it and it will tell you the size... It would be useful to know the size just so we might know what to say to others who might find themselves in the same situation as you.

Re: downloading trial versions
Well! That seems to be two of us posted with the same problem.
Initially there is a small 1.75 MB, I presume some kind of binary file from Corel after that has been downloaded, clicking on it starts the downloading of the EXE.File that is 198 MB. That is issued through a provider named Acceso Software, File Version 15. 0. 0. 498.
I might also add that under C/Program Files/Corel/Paint Shop Pro X8 it lists the 64 bit edition as been installed. That folder is 179 MB. On the C/Program Files (86)/Corel/Paint Shop Pro X8, that folder is about 19 MB. It also contains the installation shortcuts. Clicking on either of the two will bring up the are you sure you want to uninstall Paint Shop Pro X8 menu.

Re: downloading trial versions
OK -- well the smaller download file certainly suggests you are getting no choice in the matter. I wonder, though, what happens for people with 32 bit operating systems who want to try out X8...???

Re: downloading trial versions
I have a feeling it "knows" what operating system you have and gives you the appropriate file. How odd that it does not download both because when you buy the product it tells you that both is "recommended".Ken Berry wrote: I wonder, though, what happens for people with 32 bit operating systems who want to try out X8...???

Re: downloading trial versions
I am sure you are right Kathy. Those little pre-download things that last a few seconds before the real download start are probably nothing more than information gathering directives. They are probably able to gather the kind of operating system and everything else they want to know. There is not very much privacy anymore. Those cookies have become cakes. LOL!!
On my last post, I forgot one part of the link, the last one. I have now included it below.
On the C/Program Files (86)/Corel/Paint Shop Pro X8/Setup, that folder is about 19 MB. It also contains the installation shortcuts. Clicking on either of the two will bring up the are you sure you want to uninstall Paint Shop Pro X8 menu.
C/Program Files (86) Is the folder where the 32-bit apps are installed. In that folder with the installation shortcuts appears to be a log file. I'm not good at reading that kind of stuff anymore, but there appears to be some kind of malfunctions. The text is kind of a long. Do you think I should post it?
To me it doesn't make any sense that Corel would deliberately cull their applications like that

Re: downloading trial versions
Hi all, thank you for raising this concern. I've alerted the team and we're looking into this now.
