Post by Battlefeild 2 GEEK »

i want to know how do i use other encoders in dvd ws 2, and not the uleam.mpeg.now encoder (or what ever it is called)
can anyone tell me if it is possiable or not....

1. Ask yourself what you are doing to cause the inbuilt encoder WHY it is taking so long or crashing. As you do not say which codec was used to create your AVI file and under what conditions, nor do you tell us the length of the title concerned, nor the project settings, nor what hardware you are running on, nor your OS, it is obvious that no one here can help you find out what the problem is that has made you falsely believe the encoder is useless. I can assure you that I can use it to encode a high quality DVD-compliant MPEG-2 file at 1.0-1.1 times RT.

2. Take your AVI file, create a DVD compliant MPEG-2 file with whatever encoder you prefer, import that file into WS2, do your authoring and burning.

i havent installed any codecs.....
i think the one dvd ws installed was windows media 9 codecs or something

i am running amd 60 3500+ venice with win xp SP2 intergrated
I gb Of corsair ram
200 gb SATA HDD...
Pioneer dvr-107d Dvd burner

i dont know what conditions the avi was created at as i downloaded it...
there are 2 avi files each one is 700mb big.....

i was using the standard quality template in dvd ws but i changed the bit rate to 3100 and the quality setting to 74... which gave me a total size of 4.3gb

and can you please clarify point2.
When i convert to mpeg files this size might be a bit big wont it ??

3. What do you mean by "RMF"

Sorry, but you lost me somewhere. Do I understand you right? You have 2 avi files, downloaded from somewhere, each about 700MB in size and the resultant DVD compliant file, at a bit rate of 3100 kbps is 4.3 GB in size????

There is something really fishy here. Where did you get those avi files from, what are their properties??? When you watch them as avi's in media player, how long do they play for?
A DV AVI, captured from a digital camcorder, comes in at about 15GB per hour. To create a DVD out of this, you render it to mpg2 for DVD and you get excellent quality at bit rates of around 7000 kbps, with room to spare on your disk. All that with a crappy codec????

I suggest you get your facts straight before you rant on about something you obviously don't understand. Therefore, please, let us have the details of your source files and, I'm sure, we shall get to the bottom of this but won't find a S*** Ulead codec there, I assure you.

yes i have 2 avi files (movie has 2 files) 1st file plays for 1hour a 3mins and the 2nd file plays for 1 hour......

u know in the disc template manager i changed the settings for the standard DVD (120 min) and for the bitrate i put it to 3100. my encoder recognises the properties of the file as mpeg-4, it is not a cam capture it is a full dvd movie (full dvd quality with 5.1 ac3 audio)...

i downloaded the file file from torrent is is a dvd rip OF Sin CITY (full 5.1 dolby AC3)
here are the datails i get from my encode (these settings are for the orignal file and not the one i encoded)....

Bitrate : 1528 kbps
Duration : 1 Hour:3 Minutes:59 seconds

Video
Format : mpeg4
Size : 608x320
Frame rate: 23.98

Audio
Format: AC3
Bitrate: 448 KBPS
Sample rate: 4800 Hz
channels: 5 Channels

This looks like you are violating copyright laws. You won't find support here for that type of activity.

One more thing, for what it is worth, the files you are talking about are highly compressed mpeg files, not DVD compliant, any encoder out there is going to re-encode these to make them DVD compliant. Because these are compressed already and are going to be further processed, quality is going south. That's that.

I agree, but the original AVI files are obviously compressed to put on a 700 Mb CD. It is pointless trying to expand them onto a DVD.

RFM = Read the F***ing Manual, always the first place to seek help.

If you mean by "all files" some that you have not ripped or otherwise obtained from illicit or copyright sources, please start a new thread with the full details, including the codec with which you generated the avi file. We'll then do our best to help you but please RFM first to run through your project settings and so on.

WS2 is a very stable product that is widely sold. If you are having problems, then it is probably because the input files are unsuitable, the installation is faulty (insert your CD and try 'Repair'), you have not the latest updates or you are low in hard disk space.

If you do have legitimate files that will not work and you do start a new thread, please describe in detail what you do once you enter the Finish tab, including the exact wording of any error message.

I suggest to the moderator that this thread be now locked, please.

may I add that MPEG4 is not supported by WorkShop as far as I know. well, atleast DivX (mpeg4) is supported but by the looks of your ripped video files, it was using a codec that is not supported by DWS. that's the problem with downloaded video files, you dont know how was it made... too bad....
