Hi all,
I'm having a problem with rendering in VideoStudio X8. Here's what's going on-
I have a video I put together that is 4 minutes and 56 seconds long. The problem is, when I try to render the video it does not render the entire thing, and the times are all over the place as to how much of the video will be rendered. The most that it has done so far is 3 minutes and 8 seconds before telling me that the video has been successfully rendered. Here's some of the other times-
1 minute 47 seconds
55 seconds
1 minute 3 seconds
43 seconds
In the above four times, VS told me that the video had been successfully rendered, but the "finished" video was only as long as the times I listed above.
My system is a HP Notebook 15 laptop computer, running WIndows 8.1.
The version of VideoStudio I'm using is X8 Pro, trial version, with 27 days left out of 30 in the trial period. I'm considering buying the software package, but only if someone can help me with fixing this issue. I don't want to pay full price for a software package that is giving me this kind of problem.
I did try to download a couple of patches, but when I went to install them I got a pop-up window that said the specific version of X8 could not be determined.
The video clips I'm using were shot with a GoPro, and I plan to do a lot more shooting of underwater ship and plane wrecks with it.
I don't think the GoPro footage is the issue, because the rendering times are all over the place- but I could be wrong and please correct me if I am.
Any suggestions? I've been working on this video for three days now and I'm on a deadline for completion.
Thanks!
Dan

Re: VideoStudio X8 rendering- times all over the place
I'm afraid the problem is the trial version itself. For some silly reason, Corel this time round decided to severely limit what it made available in the trial version. Anything that depended on third party licences (and their fees) was stripped out. In other words only a limited number of things can be done with it. Not a good way to promote the full version, we all agree!
All I can say is that I regularly edit footage from my own GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition. It is, of course, mp4 produced with the AVCHD characteristics of the H.264 codec. I never have any problems with it. Maybe you could try a trick or two. If, for instance, you have set your Hero to film in a less usual frame size (1280 x 960 springs to mind, but it can also be set to 1920 x 1440), Video Studio -- even the full version -- does not like these sizes. So you need to set the Hero to film in the standard frame sizes of 1920 x 1080 or 1280 x 720.
Second, in the VS Preferences, go to the General tab and tick the box beside "Show message when inserting first video clip". Then start a new clip and insert one of your mp4s... You should get a message asking if you want the Project Properties to match those of the clip. Say OK and do your editing.
Then, when satisfied, you go to Share (which is where you render the project) and Select "Same As Project Properties" at the very top. This should produce a new mp4 with exactly the same properties as the originals. And it should do the entire project, not just part of it.

Re: VideoStudio X8 rendering- times all over the place
Hi Ken,
thanks so much for the info and speedy response.
The GoPro I was using was borrowed from a friend who told me it's the basic GoPro that cost $100, and it was set to shoot 1280x720, and 59fps,
When I went to render it, I chose MOV format, 720x480, 30fps. I also tried that setting in MPEG-4 and AVI formats,
Do you think the full version will enable the rendering to be successful for the entire video? Or is the frame size the GoPro was set to going to ruin the chances of a successful render? I know that sounds like a "rookie" question, and it is- I'm new at this video editing stuff.
I will take a look at the camera and see if it can be set to the other frame size you mentioned.
Cheers,
Dan

Re: VideoStudio X8 rendering- times all over the place
1280 x 720 at 59.94 fps (often called 720P) is really very good quality high def video. For a long time it was the HDTV broadcast standard, and still is in some parts of the world. It is, moreover, a format which VS can handle with ease. But you should still be following my tips for rendering it to Same As Project Properties.
But I suggest you start a new project and only insert a few clips first, just to try it out and see if things work better.
