Audio out of sync

Post by ottersea »

Using X8 and the when I captured the clip from a VHS tape the audio is a tad out of snyc from the video. Lousy capture device I guess since the VHS is good. Anyway I know you can split the audio from the video. Is there a easy way to get it in sync or is it just trial and error till they match up? Thanks

No easy way I'm afraid - has to be done manually

it may help if after splitting the audio you put a color block (usually black) of say a couple of seconds duration at the very beginning of the video track - manually slide the audio along till it is very roughly in sync - then change the duration of the colour block - which you can do as adding or removing one frame at a time to get synchronisation

the colour block gives a fixed reference and a precise way of moving the video in relation to the sound track

How do you add a color block? I do not see that option anywhere.

With Videostudio open - click on the flower icon to the right of the preview screen (fifth icon down)

When the library pane opens - which it usually does showing colour patterns - use the little drop down at top left to select 'color'

A library pane will open with a number of color blocks - drag and drop any one of them down into the beginning of the timeline - no need to make space for it - your video will slide along to make room for it

with the block in the timeline right click on it and choose "change color duration" to adjust it's length -- the clock format is hours:minutes:second:frames - - just click on the number you want to change and either use the small up down arrows or type a new number - click OK out of the timer to set it.

Did this and was able to sync the audio. Now how do I combine the audio back to the video or do I even need to? Thanks

You go to "Share" - choose the top icon down the middle of the screen (computer monitor / TV) and render out a new video which will contain images and sound - then use that video for all your future editing.
