Later versions of PSP include the ability to drag images from either Windows File Explorer or from the Organizer. Just select the image, and drag and drop into the layers palette. Lot faster than opening, copying, pasting and closing. But still petty slow because it's still one image at a time. And again it only works with certain versions of PSP.
The other option is a script. I actually tried to convert a friend of mine from GIMP to PSP and he complained about the lack of an "Open As Layer" option as well. So I made a script, now it doesn't work on layered PSP images but it should work just fine on regular flat images.
When you run the script it'll open the standard "Open" dialog, you can pick as many images as you want it'll perform the task of opening them, copying and pasting, and then closing these new images for you. Should work all of the way down to PSP9.
The Organizer suggestion worked great! I usually had the Organizer closed, to give more main editing area Workspace; but this is a great reason to keep it open - thank you!

You can set the Organizer to Auto Hide so that it is minimized at the bottom of the workspace to a tab to keep a larger workspace. It will open if you mouse over the tab.

Fantastic... I am continually wowed by the functionalities I learn about in PSP - and the helpfulness of this Forum! Thanks again, all of you
Well, since this is a user to user forum and this thread is 18 pages long that would be a huge task for one of us users to go through it and separate all the suggestions from the general chatter, make a comprehensive list and bounce it up against X9. Probably best to either download a trial of X9 when Corel makes it available to the general public or wait for the documentation that Corel puts out.
From what I've read so far about X9 it sounds like ALMOST NONE of the suggestions were included in X9.
It also sounds like there are very few new features compared to X8. And if you have VideoStudio X9, the video capture addition to PSP X9 is already included in that.
I've not tried out X9 but I think I will. I'm particularly interested in the new gradient feature - that might be the important improvement. As in the past, you can generate gradients in the materials pallet, but this new feature may make it much easier to generate the particular gradient you want. I plan to download the trial and give this feature a workout. Of less interest to me is Perfectly Clear - but I'd like to see what it does.

The gradient tool was a nice addition and in my testing worked pretty well, but that's the only really big ticket item from going to X8 to X9. Oh and the addition to add new templates (for a price). It seems to me that Corel is adding more and more advertisement to each release. I just wish that I could use a tool without the option to buy something else. Does Photoshop put ads in your face?
I tried and returned for which Corel promptly refunded without question my $$$.
True - and if Corel started doing this , I would have to choose another software product or stay with my current version. I would accept ads if this was still JASC and was not a purchased product. When I pay good hard earned money for a product, I should not expect to have to deal with ads, or give me a surefire way to opt out. That is why I pay for the product.
Don't get me wrong.. I love PaintShop Pro and have been using for a very long time. If you want to send ads, use the email I signed up with. Then I have a choice to read or not.
