I've had Boolean Algebra in my digital electronics class and I don't remember Union, Intersect, or Difference being mentioned.LeviFiction wrote:Improvements to vector tools:

I only want 6 things from the next version of PSP and then I'll gladly drop Adobe altogether.Ken Berry wrote:It seems time to start this new thread...
1. Linux and Mac Support
2. Custom Camera Profiles for PSP and Aftershot / Pro
3. Corel to work with Google to get Nik Tools ported to suppor the Linux version of PSP
4. Layer Blending options that are more predictable and work more like some of the Photoshop equivalents.
5. A true High Pass Filter, not one that is used exclusively as a sharpening effect.
6. A Channels palette that works like the Layers Palette instead of separating them in to 3 separate images.
If they had these 6 things, then PSP would easily be a very high quality option for those that don't want to pay Adobe's monthly extortion fee just to support the latest camera models.

Are you aware that Aftershot Pro runs on the Mac and Linux? I see no reason why they won't create this option given that their looking to create a true alternative to Adobe.Joelle wrote:If PSP ran on a Mac I would ditch Windows in a jiffy!rvk82 wrote:Corel should try to release a Mac version of PSP X9 as well.
No chance though, it would mean that the program would have to be completely re-coded. Can't see that ever happening.

Several staff members at the Corel office are using Mac. Alex even wrote a post here:Corel should try to release a Mac version of PSP X9 as well.

Not a native Mac version, but still usable.

Re: Wish List for PaintShop Pro version X9
If this is in the preferences, please advise, but ... I'd like the file name to show below the Organizer thumbnails again - not just in the pop-up tooltip? That's how it used to work a few versions ago - is it still an option?

Re: Wish List for PaintShop Pro version X9
In my PSPX8 and X7 the file names show beneath the thumbnails in both the Organizer and the Manage tab. I didn't do anything in any preferences regarding the organizer so don't know if there are options there, so what I see is the default from when I installed the programs.BarneyL wrote:If this is in the preferences, please advise, but ... My wishlist:
- 100% Photoshop plugin support (and especially for Nik plugins)
- Tool to create a sheet of passport pictures
- Option to hide all toolbars and palettes with a keyboard shortcut (like Tab in PS)

Re: Wish List for PaintShop Pro version X9
That's totally odd. I used to see them in 5 or previous, but all I see are the photos now. Anyone have a clue how to turn the filenames back on?JoeB wrote:

OH WAIT! I found it, under MANAGE in Preferences - checkbox 'show filenames with thumbnail images'!
VOILA!
Oh darn, types a bit small, with light gray background making them even a bit harder to read... ah but highlight an item and the gray gets lighter and it's easily readable - progress!;-)

Preferences > Manage -- tick the box beside "Show file name with thumbnail images". This works in both Manage and the Organizer.JoeB wrote: Anyone have a clue how to turn the filenames back on?
Google recently made the full NIK collection available as a free download. They all work just fine in both the 32 and 64 bit versions of PSP: https://www.google.com/nikcollection/Matagalpa wrote:100% Photoshop plugin support (and especially for Nik plugins)

Re: Wish List for PaintShop Pro version X9
Wow, you're right! I actually installed this a few months ago when it became available for free but couldn't get it to work, and now I tried again and all I had to do is add "C:\Program Files\Google\Nik Collection" under the Preferences -> File Location -> Plug-ins. I don't know why I couldn't get it to work the last time, but I'm happy I did nowKen Berry wrote: Google recently made the full NIK collection available as a free download. Yep, just said that. Great they didn't get rid of it, but it DOES seem they changed the default in recent versions to "file names off," presumably for a "cleaner" look.hartpaul wrote:Right click the workspace and select General Program Preferences > Manage and tick the Show file name with thumbnail images checkbox.

Selection Tool
Hi folks!
I may be wrong, but I guess the Selection Tool is simply the single most important tool of any image editing program, and in this regard, I think PaintShop Pro have to improve a lot.
As I highlighted in a previous post, It's impossible to zoom in and out while using the selection tool, which makes very difficult to achieve precise selections due to this limitation, specially in freehand/point-to-point selection mode.
The Pen Tool, which I use all the time to circumvent the Selection Tool shortcomings, has all the features I would like to see in the Selection Tool:
- Freely adjustable lines clicking and dragging on nodes.
- The possibility to start a freehand or point-to-point selection, do another task (in PSP or in another program), and then continue the same selection without having to close it.
- Transform a straight line into an adjustable curve, in any position separated by nodes.
- Add new nodes or merge existing ones into a line.
- Zoom in and out while executing the operation, improving the precision of selection lines.
I found a way to transform the Pen Tool closed lines in a traditional selection (like I think Selection Tool should be able to do by itself), but it's very tricky, to say the least:
1) I have to make sure the Pen Tool options "Create On Vector", "Connect Segments", "Show Nodes" and "Anti-alias" are checked, and the width set to 0. Also, have to check the option "Transparent" in "Background and Fill Properties" (Materials palette).
2) After I make all the lines and precise adjustments desired and close selected lines, I have to uncheck the option "Transparent" in "Background and Fill Properties" (Materials palette), then the object is temporarily filled with the color or texture selected. This step, despite temporary, is absolutely necessary in order to make possible to execute the next step.
3) Access menu "Selections / From Vector Object", to create a raster selection from the vector selection created by Pen Tool. Then again, check the option "Transparent" in "Background and Fill Properties" (Materials palette) to be able to show the original background image.
4) Finally, click "Selection Tool", and the marquee with traditional selection will appear.
Easy, right? Definitely not... Of course I made a script and bind it to a button to make this complex process less time consuming, but as I said before, this is just a workaround to overcome the Selection Tool weakness.
As a software programmer myself, I know that sometimes is hard to implement a completely new feature, but this is not the case, because the code to do all this stuff is already written (Zoom in/out, and the awesome Pen Tool selection flexibility), so it's just a matter of adapt the existing code to work with another similar tool.
I really encourage more people to endorse these requests and always make Corel aware of our needs and issues, as I think these can vastly improve an already outstanding application that is PaintShop Pro.
Best regards,
RegiOween
