Re: Wish List for PaintShop Pro version X9
I would like to know what is the difference between Flip and Mirror. I see no difference between the two.
What I would like in the wish list is to be able to Mirror right , Mirror left, Mirror top, Mirror bottom along with Mirror Horizontal and Mirror Vertical. Also be able to mirror across a line. All this with the option to keep the original or put Mirror on a new layer.
This would make doing reflections of Product shots a breeze. You could probably eliminate flip.

New Better gradient tool.
I would like a gradient tool where I drag a line through an object or selection and get an automatic gradient or mask to make a better fade. Not have to create one off to the side and then fill. Too many steps.
Kind of like I do in draw. If it is possible to do it now... I cannot find it. I have googled the bejezus on the topic, and watched many video's on that and cannot find a simple solution.it would be neat to have a simple fast solution. It would make fading a reflection a breeze and put the fade or mask right where you need it quick. Tie it in with opacity and we have another winner.
Would be great for product shots or to create a frame by frame lead in that can be imported into Video Studio.

Re: Wish List for PaintShop Pro version X9
Depends on which version you're using. In versions pre-x4 there was only Flip and Mirror. Flip would flip a layer across the horizontal center of the canvas. Mirror would flip the layer across the vertical center of the canvas. These can be called global transforms as it's done according to the whole canvas. After that we only had flip horizontal and flip vertical. These would flip the layer across its own center line horizontal or vertical as indicated by the name. These can be called local transforms. X8 gave us back the global alongside the local. In that case Mirror is a global transform, flip is a local transform. So Mirror Horizontal mirrors the layer across the horizontal center of the canvas. And Flip Horizontal flips the layer across its own local horizontal center.
Does that help?
As for your wish, until they do make it you can easily accomplish that very thing with a quick script. On your script toolbar hit record, then duplicate the layer you want to mirror, and then apply the mirror command. Save the script. You can run that script anytime you want to perform that action. You can also add the script to the menu if that helps.

Agree, some inspirations can be found in Adobe's Bracket editor. Simple, yet perfect.waverunner wrote:New Better gradient tool.

I will try since I have not really got my feet wet with scripts yet.
thank you for the information.

Re: Wish List for PaintShop Pro version X9
Since I design covers and work with decorative text, I could really use access to a glyphs palette in PSP, instead of having to use alt+ code or a character map. Some of my fonts have hundreds of glyphs that include several stylized versions of the same letter. My latest font includes 644 alternate letters, 98 ligatures, 8 flourishes and 6 catchwords. That's a LOT to hunt for.
Anyway, if someone in Corel could make this happen, I'd be most grateful.

Wish List 4 PaintShop Pro X9
have a random feature that generates random settings like gradients, add noise, random colors, random sizes, random textures. make sure the random feature works with scripts.
we have vertical and horizontal guide lines, but we should have diagonal guide lines as well, and to be able to adjust the exact angle. being precise at that as well.
we should be able to enter in length of line width and angle before clicking to place line on layer. think geometry, all of those geometric shapes out there.
there should be more setting options for gradients, theres only 3 or 4 we can choose from right now.
make choosing brushes easier by letting us organize the list of brushes. different folders for different brushes.
there should be a default palette for accepted colors to choose from, the usual red green blue yellow orange purple.
maybe a shortcut for saving a transparent image to PNG, instead of clicking file, export, as PNG then having to choose transparency tab, check each box then click ok then enter file name then click ok.
there are voice macro programs that make using this software so much more enjoyable and speeds up work time. these macro programs work with the already existing shortcut keys.
there are tons more ideas i have that would make psp x9 even better but for now this is all i can remember.
i love this program though.

You can do this now. I have 14 folders in my Brushes folder with different kinds of brushes.TheSUPERVANQUISH wrote: make choosing brushes easier by letting us organize the list of brushes. different folders for different brushes.

Re: Wish List for PaintShop Pro version X9
I want PSP to release an image from memory, or whatever it does to hold on to it, when I close the image; I'm so tired of having to close the program to move an image to another folder. I realize I could move it first and then edit but I shouldn't have to do this. I can't even rename the folder the file is in without closing PSP. Grrr. . .

I don't know you guys, but with PSP 10 was (by far) much quicker than X6-X7-X8.
And I'm just talking about simple actions like "Duplicating a layer", changing between layers, disabling layers, working with "Freehand Selection", making a Sharpen/Soften...
And I'm testing this new 64-bits versions versus PSP10 in the same computer (Intel I5, 16 Gb of RAM, Windows 7 64-bit and later Windows 10 64-bit) with 20-megapixels images.
I've even disabled Cache Writing and Undo Steps, but it's really slow compared to older version of the same product (and 32-bit version).
It's just really annoying.
Shortly - in latest versions PSP every time Ctrl+C is used it copies a bunch of image formats into clipboard for "backward" compatibility.
I suggest to add into a configuration switch - [ ]/[x] Enable PSP backward compatibility when Copy/Paste.
That's not exactly the problem, I never use Ctrl+C when working.
The user interface (UI) gets really slow and certain point.
Open a 20-megapixels photo and try to make some changes, like "Duplicate a layer", make a "High Pass Sharpen", set the layer to a % in "Darken/Lighten Mode"...
After a few steps more (not more than 5 layers), the redraw of image and the user interface is quite slow.
It's really annoying waiting 5/10 seconds for every small change you make after that point.
I'm thinking that perhaps the problem is that new PSP Xs always redraw the image (with every single layer and propierties) when you do a single click or at X miliseconds.
PSP 10 was quickier.
Some very simple and quick examples of how slow is PaintShop X8 is and how much X9 must improve.
Example 1:
1.- Open any 20 Mb. photo.
2.- Add a new Layer "Hue/Saturation/Lightness...". Then aply somes changes (like 10 in "Saturation"). Change its layer mode as "Darken".
3.- Try to add another Layer. It gets slower and slower every time, sometimes even 15 seconds.
Example 2:
1.- Open a photo.
2.- Click in "Material Propierties" and try to choose or change a Gradient.
3.- It's slow. Why?
PaintShop X (and below) was a thousand times quickier.
Example 3:
- Enabling/disabling layer is also slooooooooooooooooooww. There isn't a good response.
The worst is when you try to enable/disable/duplicate a group of layers.
Paintshop X, in the same computer and with the same image, is quickier in every simple aspect.

Re: Wish List for PaintShop Pro version X9
Your right about PaintShop being slow, though I do find x8's brushes more responsive than x5,6, and 7. Layers in particular are very slow to refresh: turning on/off a layer, modification of a layer's transparency characteristics, or modification of the layer type (hue, overlay, multiply, etc.). I find adjustment layers even slower. Auto save is another slow process. It freezes the interface until it finishes. It should be a background process like in MS Office.
When I look at Win10's task manager, Paintshop doesn't seem to go above maybe 55% processor tops -- usually 50% or less -- when doing the above changes. For example If I do a histogram adjustment with a 35 MP image (1 layer) my processor hits 27%. When I turn on or off a layer with multiple layers (overlay, saturation, etc) based on that same image, the task manager maxes at 50% and the screen has a noticeable refresh delay. If I modify one of those layers with a histogram adjustment, the task manager hits maybe 55% tops -- usually just 50%. This tells me PaintShop either isn't using both cores or is just not very good coordinating both; I suspect the former rather than the latter.
I have a i3 Intel processor (2 cores) w/hyperthreading turned **off**. Before I had the hyperthreading ***on*** (the default setting). And all of the above situations resulted in numbers around 25%. That only makes sense if PaintShop is using one process for these examples and thus only using one core/virtual core. With hyperthreading on, each core visible to the process will be a virtual core (1/2 a real core) and will only be able to use 25% of the total processing resources available.
It may help to make the layer composition procedure run in a separate process; or if that is already the case, make better use of the separate processes. Making use of direct3D to have the computer's GPU composite multiple layers might also help in some cases if not already implemented.
