View -> Customize

Select the Toolbars tab

Then select the Layers Palette Toolbar and click the "Reset" button.
I tried that already, Levi, because I had no icons on the Layers Palette Toolbar, only text commands. Lost everything on the upper toolbar.

Edit to add: after dragging a few icons back to the Layers Palette Toolbar and reopening the program, the icons are still there and the text commands are back, the link/unlink command being one of them. However, I have to resize the Layers palette to the full width of the desktop in order to see them; this makes PSP unusable on my laptop.

Just to clarify: I don't want PSP being totally different or having the same vector abilities like CorelDraw. For my 'creating' i need a mix of raster and vector graphics, because i use the photo tools as often as the vector tools, but both don't need to be high-end tools. Having both in one software makes the creating process very comfortable. Textures for virtual worlds like i create have a strong tendency to realism, so a pure vector software wouldn't do it. Often i start from photos, edit them massively, add some vectors and effects to the vectors...
The issue i always try to circumvent is, that the world is divided into either raster or vector. And far most software tools are either raster or vector. IMHO Corel could work out this combination of raster and vector some more and set into focus as unique selling proposition.
Btw... i have the impression, that far most downloads offered online for PSP, like plugins, tubes, brushes, patterns and even tutorials... that those are mainly for 'creating', in the meaning of 'creating something new'. Am i right? So far i know, most of it is old, but still works fine.
Global players await Virtual Reality being the next big thing, a business of already billions and growing fast. If that comes true, there will be far more people creating content for such worlds.

Extra Credits did an interesting analysis of VR. I do look forward to how the medium progresses.

Ravelli have you tried Xara Photo & Graphic designer? It's more vector graphics design but has a number of excellent photo tools.

Highly recommended, a brilliant program.
I use Xara and PSPX8 side by side :-)

I'd like updates t preserve menu and tool customizations.
Each time I upgrade, I have to reset everything.

More details about Service Packs resolved issues.

Ideally like Adobe does for Photoshop - http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/#issues 8)

Repair the Color Management in PSP X8. Seems to have a mind of its own and changes settings needing a re-boot at times.

Screen black is not black compared to Photoshop when both are placed on same screen. Cannot get good shadow detail in PSP X8.

I have just learned that the RAW converter I am using allows you to create a keyword library in a simple text file e.g. in Notepad. This includes the possibility to enter the list with parent and child keywords. That textfile can then be imported into the software. This is something I wish to have in PSP X9!

SPEED!

I don't know you guys, but with PSP 10 was (by far) much quicker than X6-X7-X8.
And I'm just talking about simple actions like "Duplicating a layer", changing between layers, disabling layers, working with "Freehand Selection", making a Sharpen/Soften...

And I'm testing this new 64-bits versions versus PSP10 in the same computer (Intel I5, 16 Gb of RAM, Windows 7 64-bit and later Windows 10 64-bit) with 20-megapixels images.
I've even disabled Cache Writing and Undo Steps, but it's really slow compared to older version of the same product (and 32-bit version).

It's just really annoying.

Shortly - in latest versions PSP every time Ctrl+C is used it copies a bunch of image formats into clipboard for "backward" compatibility.

I suggest to add into a configuration switch - [ ]/[x] Enable PSP backward compatibility when Copy/Paste. :)

In full screen mode status bar is not visible - like size of image or size of selection etc.

I miss it badly.

That's not exactly the problem, I never use Ctrl+C when working.

The user interface (UI) gets really slow and certain point.
Open a 20-megapixels photo and try to make some changes, like "Duplicate a layer", make a "High Pass Sharpen", set the layer to a % in "Darken/Lighten Mode"...
After a few steps more (not more than 5 layers), the redraw of image and the user interface is quite slow.
It's really annoying waiting 5/10 seconds for every small change you make after that point.

I'm thinking that perhaps the problem is that new PSP Xs always redraw the image (with every single layer and propierties) when you do a single click or at X miliseconds.

PSP 10 was quickier.

I would like to see the Magic Selection Brush being able to make use of the Shift key, to Shift click a straight line, the same way as Shift clicking the Freehand Selection Tool, ie hold the Shift key when the tool is active, click at one end then move the cursor to the end of the line and end up with a straight line.
As it is at the moment, the Shift key doesn't work with the Magic Selection Brush, the user just has 2 circles on either side of the line:
Shift-click_Magic_Selection_brush.jpg
I also find it very irritating that when selection a Feather in any of the Selection tools, it transfers to all the other Selection tools.
The tools should be independent of each other.

Better Material properties dialog. For better & quicker adjusting of selected color.
