Temporarily disable Norton before running PSP's cleanup tool. It is stopping the tool from working because the tool is trying to delete files - likely some registry entry related to PSP - so Norton thinks it is dangerous.

JoeB, Thank you. I did exact what you said and it worked perfectly! There were several orphaned registry entries the tool removed. I have everything running now! Many Thanks!

Do you get any sort of error message? Does the splash screen appear and then disappear? Anything?

In my own case, the 64 bit version installed without trouble. When I opened it, I got an update notice, and I installed the patch. It seems to work perfectly. For me the only glitch is that there is something wrong with the registration process, though Corel says it is looking into that for me.

Thanks for your reply and interest Ken
For both 32 & 64 bit versions I get the Windows 'error' messages shown as soon as I try to open..
I have checked Windows Log for errors and can find none reported.
Both versions have been downloaded 3 times, uninstalled and reinstalled, with the same results each time. I have tried installing with Norton AV & firewall disabled to no effect.
I reported this to Corel over a week ago and have heard nothing back yet.

I have been using PSP X7 Ult for several months now without problem. Both the 32 and 64 bit versions worked fine. I upgraded to Windows 10 two weeks ago and everything still worked fine. Then about 3 days ago the 64bit version would start to load. Get to the manage screen but no further. Could not do anything and had to use task manager to end task. 32bit version still worked for a day then did the same. Removed PSP altogether and reinstalled. 64 and 32 versions not working past the manage screen and are showing in task manager as not responding. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have your custom folders in C / Documents / PaintShop Pro / 17 / ? If so, right click, cut and move them to your desktop temporarily. Reinstall X7 and see that helps. Sometimes there is something in the custom folders that causes PSP to hiccup! I have X8 and I continually get not responding but didn't with X7!

trueblue, I did as you suggested and removed the folder to the desktop. Uninstalled and reinstalled PSP X7 and the service pack 3 and would you believe it. Both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions are loading and working. I have closed down and rebooted the PC a couple of times (not had time to do it more) and it still appears to be working fine.
Excellent advice. Hopefully it will stay that way.
Thanks
Neil

Think I spoke too soon. Two days later and I have the same problem back. Any suggestions out there ?

I am having the exact same problem since I did clean install of windows 10 . PSP x7 just will not install. Same result. No changes have been made. PSP X6 however does load. Don't know where to go now. Any suggestions.

PSPX6 (v16.2.0.20) was fine when I first upgraded to Win10. Then it started to shutdown on startup, but always started fine on the second startup. Then Win10 spotted the issue with PSPX6 and recommended a fix.

Fix done. Result - PSPX6 still occasionally shutdown on startup, but now saving any file is real slow.

I am on WIN 8.1 but have been following all the posts in various threads dealing with issues of compatibility with WIN 10 and various versions of PSP. The issues aren't always the same for everybody, not even with the same version of PSP. Not everybody seems to have issues regardless of their PSP version. I would suspect that in other forums dealing with other software there are similar complaints.

Personally, I have Jasc's PSP 9.1 installed on my WIN 8.1 machine as well as Corel's X7 and X8 and don't have any issues. If I've learned one thing from all of these posts it's to not upgrade to WIN 10 for the foreseeable future. :-)

Open Task Manager, click on the Services tab, and look for PSI_SVC and make sure it says it is running in the Status column. Under the Processes tab you should also find PSISevice. These are the licensing services for Corel and the program won't run if they are missing. Also make sure that they are not blocked by your firewall.
