Win 10 Compatabilty

Post by dalematt »

I had assumed that an upgrade to Win 10 would be no problem for PSP X7. Then I read someone's concern regarding it. Is PSP X7 compatible with Win 10? If not, is there a patch available? I do not want to upgrade to Win 10 yet if there will be a problem.

Yes X7 will run on Windows 10. For best compatibility you'll want to install the latest service packs.

Just to be clear, Levi Fiction is referring to the service packs which had already been issued for X7, not any specific pack which has just been released to make X7 compatible with Win 10. FWIW, I have upgraded a number of computers which already had X7 on them, and I have not yet found any anomalies in the way the program runs under Win 10.

Technically SP3 for X7 does mention making it compatible with the latest version of Windows 10 Technical Preview. I don't know if that is neededwith the full release of Windows 10 or not. But it is good to make sure that X7 is up to do date anyway.

It was working ok previous the upgrade. My PS X7 is ultimate edition and have all upgrades i even checked now and it say that aren´t uptades for it.

Did the freeze occur with any format of photo or just certain formats? If so, which ones?

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and now I can't access my Paint Shop Pro X6 at all. I have even tried downloading the free trial of X7 in case X6 is not compatible, but that one will not open either.

The message I get says when I click to open either of them says the folder below is used to save user-created resource files and is currently not available, as though the program can't run by clicking the icon as it always has.

Does anyone here know if X6 is compatible with Win 10? I am desperate as this is my MOST USED program.

This is my first time posting, so please forgive me if I have messed up somehow. Thank you.

I tried again with the Free trial of PSP X7 and it did work. But I still would like to know if X6 is compatible or not. I will buy X7 or possibly X8 if X6 is not compatible. Does ANYONE have information on this? :(

Usually when I am working on a .jpg image and some .pspimage - that are .jpg that I was working, it can happen in any time, but I can see that it was more normal to do it when I am using zoom on a image and when i am making a sellection. It happen with PS 32 and 64 bits. But sometimes i can freeze when i try to start to edit them. I will need to opent the task menager to stop the program and I can start it again without problems, but some time later it will freeze again. Today I usually edit some photos to put on my tumblr account, and it freeze a lot of time (I think about 30 or soo times).

It could be a "simple" corruption of PSP.
Try to start while holding down the Shift key.
It will ask you if you want reset the program to its initial state.
Say Yes.
This wil also reset your workspace and your preferences (but not your images previously saved).

I tried it yesterday, It didn´t ask me about the reset, but reseted my workspace, it still freeze, but I see that you have PS 6, it still running ok on Windows 10? I have it here (not installed in this computer, used it in a old one that stoped working last year) and if it look like can work, i can install.

I don't have Windows 10 installed. I'm running Windows 8.
I have PSP X2, X6, X7 and X8.
As I'm active on different forums and I need to have those programms running side by side in order to give advice to users who are running "old" versions, I'm waiting before to jump into Windows 10.
If I install Windows 10, it seems the old PSPs will not run although I've found a user running PSP 7 (Jasc time) on Windows 10!
I try to find some solutions because Corel is not interested to do it. They prefer to sell new versions.

Try to uninstall PSP X6 and reinstall.
In Windows 8, it was possible to run a software in a previous Windows mode. Does this option still exist in Windows 10?

I'm running Win10 and PSP X7.

I had to do a Recovery after a Windows 7 update wouldn't allow me to startup again.
So I started with a bare C-Drive except for the OS.
Ran the Win7 updates until Win10 update came up and installed that.
Had to do a fresh PSP X7 install therefore.
It installed just Servicepack 3, automatically, and is running smoothly.
Haven't used many plugins yet, but the ones I used (Filters Unlimited, Abstract Curves, both install plugins) work fine.

In Win10 you don't have to exclude PSP from Windows DEP anymore as Microsoft only protects Win10 and Microsoft Services with DEP now.

Corel claims it only supports PSP from X4 upwards, so your X2 might come into trouble there.
Although Microsoft claims that what works on Win7, should work on Win10.
However, most plugins are too old now to work properly in Win7, let alone Win10.

Win10 will allow you to run software in backward compatible mode.

I am experiencing the exact same problem. I'd take a screenshot of the error message, except I don't have a working photo editor (can't get one off of the Win 10 app store because that isn't working either). I have x3 and x5, neither work after upgrading to Win 10, I just bought x7 because I thought it would be compatible. While I am waiting for it to arrive, I downloaded the x7 demo and it doesn't work either. Nothing I do seems to have any effect.

This is what the dialogue box says.
The folder listed below is used to save your user-created resource files. Currently the folder is not accessible. See the Installer Document, found on the CD, for more information about configuring User Data Folders (My PSP Files).
Check whether your user file folder is on a network or a drive that is no longer accessible. If so, Cancel and reconnect the drive or network and run the application again.
If the folder above no longer exists or has been renamed or moved, please specify emergency read/write folder by pressing OK.
When the application launches you must reconfigure your file locations by selecting:
File - Preferences - File Locations

That's all fine and good, but clicking OK and specifying a new file location does nothing. I try to run the program again and get the same error message.
If someone has a solution to this, I'd love to hear it. If not I'm going to have to return x7 and invest in Adobe, which I really don't want to do.

I have 8 gb of memory, and on task menager neither my cpu our my memory is over 50% of use.

I too am having problems with Paintshop Pro X7 and windows 10. When the windows 10 upgrade finished Paint shop was gone. No files or icons. I had ordered the DVD when I bought paintshop but when I tried to reinstall it keeps telling me that "no changes have been made" and for me to try to reinstall later. I am thinking there are some residual files/entries somewhere on the hard drive but when I tried to download and run the PS X7 clean up file here on this site..norton keeps deleting it saying it is unsafe. So, that's as far as I can get..
