VideoStudio X7 - Project playback displaying still photo
Hello,
It seems like there should be a basic solution, however I can't seem to fix this problem.
I have imported a video in a new project.
I can play the video in full only if I select "clip". It will work fine.
When I want to play the video as a "project", it will only show a still photo/frame of that video. It will not play in full.
Can you help me with this issue?

Welcome to the forums! However your question is a bit like phoning a mechanic and saying "my car does not work" but you don't even say what kind of car it is. So the first thing we need to know is what kind of video you are inserting. Please right click on the video either in the Video Studio timeline or in its library window, and select Properties. Then copy ALL of them here, or take a screen image of the Properties box and upload it here as an Attachment. Any other information about the video such as where it came from, would also be useful.
Have you ticked the box in Settings > Preferences > General beside "Show message when inserting first video clip into timeline"? If so, did you get a message asking if you want the Project Properties to match those of the clip? If not, can you tick that box, start a new project and insert the clip. Do you get a message?

Hello,
Sorry for the late response and the original post lacking clarity.
I have attached a screenshot of the Properties box.
I tried what you said and checked the box but nothing changed. No dialogue box popped up for me and the video continued to display a still image.

Re: VideoStudio X7 - Project playback displaying still photo
Thanks for that. After checking the box, did you start a new Project and insert the clip? It only works with the first clip in a *New* project, not in an existing project.
In any case, I am wondering where the video came from in the first place. Its Properties seem fairly normal AVCHD except for the frame rate which is a very strange 19.755 full frames per second. Normally 1280 x 720 AVCHD would be 50 fps (PAL) or 60 fps (NTSC), or at the very least 25/30 fps... It is possible that VS has difficulty with this frame rate because it cannot be accommodated within your project's properties... (And that in turn might also explain why you did not get a message asking if you wanted the project properties to match those of the clip.)

This video came from an iMac's Webcam.
After toying around and starting a new project, I did see the dialog box pop up. I've attached it here.

Did that make any difference to your original problem?

Unfortunately it never made a difference. I'm still only seeing a still photo being displayed and no video movement.

Re: VideoStudio X7 - Project playback displaying still photo
Does this happen with other clips or only with clips from that webcam?

Re: VideoStudio X7 - Project playback displaying still photo
From that webcam video, when I hit "play project" I can hear the audio but the video will not play. The clip will play as normal.
I've uploaded another video that was recorded with a camera, and it will play as both a clip and a project - without problem.

Re: VideoStudio X7 - Project playback displaying still photo
I have tried another webcam video that was taken at the same time, and that one actually works.
I wonder if it has to do with the file size of the video. The one not working is significantly larger (and longer) than the one that will work for me, but I wouldn't think that file size should be an issue in the editing process?
The one I am trying to work with shouldn't be corrupted because it plays perfectly fine in other programs.
