I'm trying to generate an ISO file of my VS X5 project, a 12 minute collection of images and video clips creating a monthbook (as opposed to a yearbook) for a high school student advanced summer program. The ISO will be moved to a system that burns multiple DVD's (five) simultaneously or a robotic duplicator. I've tried several times and the burned DVD's play the project properly but won't autorun when inserted in a pc or DVD player. Because of the short run time, there is no need for a start menu. The other thing I want to do is create a custom start icon with the program logo for pc systems that don't autorun.
What do I need to do in VS to generate an ISO file that creates an autorun disc with my logo icon?
Regards,
George

Re: Creating ISO file for an autorun DVD
Have you set your PC to Autoplay? Have you done the same on the DVD player?

Re: Creating ISO file for an autorun DVD
Can you confirm what you have actually burned to the DVD's - are you saying that you actually burned the .iso file to DVD as an iso file - I wasn't aware that iso files would self start especially in standard DVD players.
if you want a standard self starting DVD then you need to use a proper iso burning programme - which VideoStudio contains - which will burn the iso file to DVD as a 'Video_TS' folder containing VOB files

Re: Creating ISO file for an autorun DVD
Briancree- The ISO files were passed to Nero and it created the DVD's from them, it didn't put the ISO file itself on the DVD. The DVD's worked, as long as I opened the folder and clicked on the video file. I finally eliminated the menu and moved the opening graphic from the menu into the project. Along with the efforts below, DVD's created from the ISO will now autorun.
Thank you to canuck for stating the obvious because in fact part of the problem was the obvious. The workstation was built three weeks ago for editing video and duplicating DVD's with a fresh install of Vista Ultimate (the only license I had available). Sometime in the last three weeks, some person or program changed just the DVD autoplay setting from the default. I switched DVD players and the autorun worked on the new one...I haven't been able to find an autorun setting on the original player.
This leaves me with one problem, can I include a custom icon in the ISO file for pc's that don't autorun for whatever reason?
Thank you for your responses.

George

Re: Creating ISO file for an autorun DVD
BUT - - if the DVD does not autorun how will it know - or be able to - put an icon on your desktop - even if such a thing were possible
DVD's and other items auto running is a function of Windows - not the disc you put in - Windows needs to recognise that a disc has been inserted - then it can take whatever action you stipulated.

Re: Creating ISO file for an autorun DVD
I don't want an icon on the desktop, it needs to be in the folder that is placed on the DVD by the burning program or device. The folder on the DVD has several files and I want it to be immediately obvious which icon needs to be clicked to start the video. I have seen several DVD's with a distinctive icon so there must be a way to do it; the question is whether VideoStudio is capable of doing it.

I am sorry but I have no idea what you are talking about.wizardgmb wrote:I don't want an icon on the desktop, it needs to be in the folder that is placed on the DVD by the burning program or device. Re: Creating ISO file for an autorun DVD
Well I think the answer to your question is that we do not think it can be done in videostudio
but I am still not sure what you are doing - if you have burn't the DVD correctly then it should have a folder on it called Video_TS - inside that should be a number of files such as .vob's , .bup's and .ifo files
in order to play a DVD on a computer you should be using a software DVD player which only needs to be shown where the Video_TS folder is - not any individual file
