I was wondering if anyone had encountered this problem.
Using Video Studio 9, when I get to the share step and click on Create Video File it takes about 30 minutes or more for the template options to appear. During this time Task Manager reports there is no response from the Video Studio application.
Once the template menu appears everything is fine.
If anyone has experienced this, is there a fix?
Thanks
Louie

First time I have heard that particular one. The slightly more common template problem seems to be an error message saying that it can load the templates (or sub-templates) at all. Not sure what to suggest, either. Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the program? What steps do you take to get to the Share stage?

Thanks for your responses. I tried turning off the anti-virus and all background programs including the network connections and services. But I get the same results. I installed the software on my sons machine and it works fine on his. So must be something in my setup affecting this step.
Here are my specs:
Dell Dimension 8400
Intel Pentium 4 3.2 HT 3.2 Ghz
1 gb of ram.
Display adapter Radeon x300 series
Creative Audigy Audio Processor
I'll post a solution if I find it.
Thanks to all.

My guess is that Windows Explorer (which is sharing code with the common dialogs) is trying to generate a preview for one or more large media files that are in the same directory where you are trying to save the project. Under some circumstances, such as when a file is damaged or using a missing codec, this can take a long time. You'll typically see constant disk activity while the entire files is read, which may take minutes with large DV or uncompressed AVI files.
Try temporarily unregistering the DLL that handles the preview for media files such as AVI videos. Go to Start -> Run, and enter the following:
Now see if the problem has disappeared.
If it hasn't, or you don't want to lose the media preview, you can re-register the DLL using this command:

THoff,
I gave it a try but it didn't help.
But I do notice the constant disk activity. Does VS expect the files to reside in a certain directory?
The weird part is that if I leave VS open and just work on a new project clicking Create Video File brings up the templates instantly. It only takes a long time when I first open VS.
Thanks
