Hi guys, just wondering why do many people say I should have split my audio from my video (as 2 different files) before I attempt to burn to a dvd?
Why not just add the 1 file , with both the video and audio in the same file?

Re: Splitting the audio from the video
I have never seen the suggestion that you should split the audio before burning a DVD - in fact I would think that most of the experienced users on here would say do NOT split the audio unless you absolutely have to in order to edit it separately.
Our suggestion has always been that the best way to create a DVD is to first create a DVD compliant mpeg-2 video as ONE file from your project before using that new single file to burn a DVD.

Re: Splitting the audio from the video
Thanks for the reply, here's just one quote from a very popular DVD making program, " Whenever you prepare a video that will be added to a DVD you always render the Video and Audio Files separately. This is just the way it is done and gives the best results. You must also name the separate Video and Audio files the exact same name and save to the exact same folder location."
Any thoughts?

What "popular" program? It must apply to only that particular program. It generally is not done or even recommended

Hi Canuck, here is the reply I got back from one program ( Sony Vegas) "Creating a separate Video and Audio file is part of the official DVD specification. Every DVD you have ever bought uses this protocol. The main reason is to allow multiple Audio tracks in different languages." I also read that it saves time, but my view is you either use the time before you attempt to put the 2 files to a dvd or after.

Re: Splitting the audio from the video
Vegas is hardly what I would call a "popular" program, though it is of course a very good one. But it is at the professional end of the spectrum, not at the consumer end like Video Studio or Vegas's 'baby brother' - Sony's Movie Studio Platinum (which I also use).
But I can only repeat what has already been said above. In my thirteen years of using these editing programs, I have never -- until today -- heard that assertion about splitting audio from video before burning a DVD. And for our end of the market, I find it quite strange. I can accept the Sony comment about allowing multiple audio tracks in different languages. But again this is not something that Video Studio claims to be able to do.

Re: Splitting the audio from the video
Although many DVD burning programmes still insist on putting an "Audio_TS" folder on the DVD along with the "Video_TS" folder I don't think I've ever seen any thing in the audio folder of a "domestically" produced DVD - always just one file combining video and audio
