Questions About The Program

Post by StefanProductions »

I'm using Corel Videostudio Pro X5 on a Windows 7 Home Premium computer.
I have two questions regarding how to use the program:
Question 1: Is it possible to have text stay stationary in a moving clip? Like have it look like it's just sitting on the ground static as the clip moves past it? If so, how?
Question 2: Is it possible to suround text in a thin white rectangular boarder? Nothing fancy, just a suttle thin boarder. If so, how?

Thank you

Welcome to the forums!
Question 1: Is it possible to have text stay stationary in a moving clip? Like have it look like it's just sitting on the ground static as the clip moves past it? If so, how?
Simple. Just click on the big T to the immediate right of the preview screen. On the preview screen you will see a big message "Double-click here to add a title". Do so and a smaller dotted line box will appear with the cursor blinking in it. Type your title. Note that over to the lower right of the preview screen you will see an Edit panel which allows you to choose things like font, size etc. The little digital clock above Font also allows you to set the length of time the title will stay on screen.

When satisfied with your title, click on the screen outside that dotted box and it will convert to a double dotted box with coloured handles around its edge. These will allow you to adjust or distort the title if you want. But if you put the mouse pointer inside the box it converts into the shape of a hand and you can drag and drop the title wherever you want on the screen. Note, however, that it should stay within the large rectangular box which sits just a little inside the edges of the preview screen. This represents the safe area of your TV screen. If the title goes outside it, there is the risk that part of the title will be cut off.
Question 2: Is it possible to suround text in a thin white rectangular boarder? Nothing fancy, just a suttle thin boarder. If so, how?
Again, simple. At the bottom of that Edit panel I mentioned there is a button for "Border/Shadow/Transparency". Click that and you can adjust the size and colour of the border around the title, plus being able to add things like a light shadow to further highlight it if you want.

The border option which Ken has offered just puts a border around each individual letter - in order to do what I think you want I drew a rectangle on a green background in and external image editor and put that in an overlay track and then use the Chroma key option to make the green transparent - see below.
