Comparision of Video Editing Software
Hi All,
I've not posted to these boards for quite some time, mainly due tot he lack of time but just recently saw this -
Seems VS8 comes out quite well. Not too sure about the Cyberlink Product but Price wise hopefully Ulead will look at this

I "believed" two other such "review" sites: one for an anti-spam utility which I bought (the "gold" selection) and the other, an anti-spyware program (again the "gold" selection...by SOMEBODY'S decision).
Now I'm beginning to believe these "reviewers" have an interest in getting certain software sold. It would be nice to know everybody was completely objective when they rated these programs.
Also: Where are the Sony other video editing programs?

I like VS too
Hi Trevor,
I wasn't trying to endorse other products or slag off VS.
I'm in the UK and use VS8, I just happened to see this review and thought it might be interesting for other people to read and form their own opinions.
IMHO, I think VS8 is very good -- the recurring problems I see and mainly on these boards relate to Capture, Audio Synch'ing, and to some extent output qualilty/size of output etc.....
From what I've read of other competing software every single one of them has issues and in some cases in these same area's.
For it's good points and from the limitations I know of, I'm sticking with VS but just thought it was of interest.
Cheers,
Brian

Sorry Brian
(I was about to go out when I read your posting, hence the short reply).
Should have recognised your name, buts that no excuse for being a little rude.
Welcome back.
I have had chance to view the link , makes interesting reading.
My version of Video Studio is now working fine, (touch wood) unlike many that visit the forum.
But then if we didn’t have problems we wouldn’t be here.
As you say the main problem seems to be :-
1 / audio sync’
2 / pulsating pixels.
My system is fine, so in a spare moment I try to duplicate the faults, with little success.
All the Best Trevor

I so far have tried.
PowerProducer
Pinnacle Studio 9
Adobe Permiere & Encore DVD
And VS8
VS8 is far the best for analogue capture, at full size 720x576, and the fastest to grab from DVD (DVD-VR from DVD recorder).
PowerProducer Creates the best DVD output as it never has Audio Sync issues, so far.
I will shortly be trying Adobe Premiere Express.

My Machine spec:
http://pcspec.brion.co.uk/
Video captured from Sony DVD-Recorder in Mpeg2 (Direct from DVD-VR disc).
Pinnacle 9 plus (and non-Plus version):
I like the interface. Has a lot of good features.
Cannot create DVDs on my machine.
ISO has audio Sync problems
Adobe Premiere, Encore & Premiere Express:
Cannot import DVD as I just get "Unsupported audio rate" error.
Sony DVD Architech 2.0:
Can produce DVD without audio sync proble.
Creating menus is a very manual task, no auto chapter creation
CyberLink PowerProducer:
Menus easier to create than Sony, cannot create DVD without a menu.
DVD created without audio sync problem
Cannot produce ISO images it uses its own disc image format
Can create to a Folder.
CyberLink PowerDirector:
Far too slow at editing but it does use EzProducer to create DVDs (a cut down version of PowerProducer).
I'm currently using UVS8 to import my DVD-VR into Mpeg2, and edit the video. I then render in the same settings as the original DVD-VR to a final Mpeg file. To create the DVD I use PowerProducer to create a Folder from the final Mpeg then Nero6 to burn the DVD. So far 100% no sync problems
I'll try and keep you up-to-date on any othe findings.

It's actually GREEN screendavid reece wrote:what interest me about Pinnacle V9 plus is you do blue screen work with it! Perhaps we will get blue screen in VS9 of ulead.
Pinnacle would be great if only it:
1. Did not re-render everything.
2. Could produce DVDs
3. Did not have audio sync problems.
If the above items could be rectified I would be able to produce DVDs with just two products

So why isn't Microsoft's Movie Maker 2 in here?
I haven't searched every nook of this forum but I thought that there would be SOME mention of Movie Maker 2 as an alternate. I see Pinnacle and other packages mentioned. What is the word on MMM2?

IMHO, Movie Maker 2, while it certainly works, is fairly primitive, and most reviewers probably don't give it much serious consideration.
Just out of interest anniebrion, have you looked at MyDVD? I find in my own situation that VS8 is a great capturing/editing package, while MyDVD burns very well. They complement each other quite nicely - I just use the two applications.
