Video Studio ProX2 and MOV video clips
I need to burn to dvd some video clips taken with an iPhone, so the format is MOV. I am using the MOVAVI video converter to convert the clips to avi before importing them into VS12. My problem is that as soon as I import more than one clip, the playback frame rate goes down to approx 1/sec
Moreover, in "project" view mode, the playback stops at the end of each clip. Is this a VS problem or am using the wrong settings in MOVAVI?

I wouldn't think it is a videostudio problem - I have never encountered anything like that and I have tried quite a variety of formats - although I must admit I have never used the one you are having problems with
do the converted avi's play in other software - Windows media player say - or whatever else you may have - might give us a clue to whats happening.

Can we also assume that the .mov files directly from the iPhone are not accepted by VS?

Copied a few clips to Windows Live Movie Maker. Works perfectly
In reply to Ken, VS12 does not accept the unconverted MOV clips.

PS It really seems to be a VS12 problem: I tried the Prism Video Converter as well, and again VS12 choked on the avi clips while Windows Movie Maker handled them properly

Re: Video Studio ProX2 and MOV video clips
I was hoping for suggestions on how I could successfully edit and include in a project in VS12 those avi files converted from MOV. Am I getting something wrong in the conversion parameters?

Re: Video Studio ProX2 and MOV video clips
Are you able to tell us exactly what sort of AVI your converter produces? There are over 800 widely different video formats which use the .avi extension, and it would be useful to know which one you have.
Anyway, since you are wanting to burn a DVD, wouldn't it be better to convert to DVD-compatible mpeg-2? Your existing converter might not do that, but there are a variety of other converters out there which can, some of them freeware. One which a number of us here use with success is Format Factory -- but just be careful when installing it to read each page of the installation process carefully in order to avoid it installing other unwanted programs/toolbars. Another good converter is Handbrake.

Re: Video Studio ProX2 and MOV video clips
Thank you Ken. I used the Any Video Converter with the settings you suggested and everything works as expected
The converter which I was evaluating had a plethora of avi formats and I used the one for TV which seemed to be the closest to what I needed
I got used to conveting all my clips to avi under the influence of a tutorial which was posted on this user board a long time ago. In those days most of my video clips came directly from my Sony Camcorder. Once again, a big thank you for your suggestion.

Re: Video Studio ProX2 and MOV video clips
A long time ago we used to suggest that DV/AVI was an excellent format to capture in and edit, and easily convertible then to DVD-compatible mpeg-2. But in those same days long ago, perhaps the best consumer level camcorder available was one which used tape cassettes and connected to your computer via Firewire. Apart from some hardy holdouts like myself, these camcorders have largely disappeared, and even their successor format -- high definition HDV -- which still uses the same cassettes and Firewire, are following closely behind.I got used to converting all my clips to avi under the influence of a tutorial which was posted on this user board a long time ago.
In other words, while we might have recommended AVI in those long gone days, it was a very specific flavour of AVI!
