Lost audio using MS Media Player

Post by grahamGollings »

I hve just install ULEAD video studio 9 an a 30day trial. It seems to be working fine. However I have noticed that Windows Media Player has stopped playin AVI files. The video seems to work, but is perhaps a bit choppy. The sound no longer works at all. AVI works fine in Video Studio.

Has Ulead installed a different codec, if so how can I get both programs tp play AVI.

Thanks.

AFAIK Video Studio uses Microsoft DV/AVI codecs and does not install its own version of these. What are your captured clip's properties? Is the audio AC-3? If so, what version of WMP do you have and have you loaded an AC-3 plug-into it?

I think there are some files (from VS9) that conflict with WMP.

Please email Ulead Tech support and inform them about your problem so they can give you the updates to overwrite some common files.

You could be right. But the only time I had trouble playing my video clips on WMP, I was advised to download the Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
This checks to see if you have the correct or up to date codecs. I found that one of mine was not correct, but curiously, the utility told me that the correct one was from neither Windows nor Ulead, but was a Cyberlink Power Director one. Once I updated, my WMP problem went away.

Thanks for the pointers. Since posting my question I ugraded from WMP 9 to 10, but the problem is the same. Running Ulead video studio and right clicking-properties it says the following. File format Microsoft AVI, frame rate 15.009 frames/sec, data rate 253.18 kbps, video MJPEG compressor, Audio IMA ADPCM attrib 11.025k/z 4 bit mono. Does that tell anyone anything?

I opened the same AVI file in WMP, under File-Properties it gives media type video, audio codec - dash, video codec - dash. So WMP doesn't seem to be using a codec at all?

Apple Quicktime plays the AVI fine.

I downloaded the windows media checkup utility. It appears that I have only 1x MPEG-2 compatible decoder which is Cyberlink CLVSD.ax v6. All the other decoders are said to be imcompatible with the WMP synchronisation feature (whatever that is) including Ulead decoder 2 UlDVDVideo.ax v2 and Ulead MPEG decoder uldsmpeg.ax

Now I am lost - what to do next ??
