Windows 10 compatibility in older versions
I have PSP 8.1, and was wondering if anyone has tested or knows if the older versions will be compatible with Windows 10. I honestly don't need anything more advanced than 8.1, and I know it very well. I don't want to have to learn a new version, so I may just not upgrade to Win 10 if it doesn't work. Don't have any special need to upgrade anyway. Win 8 works fine for me.

Re: Windows 10 compatibility in older versions
I'm using PaintShop Pro x6 and just upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and it appears PSP x6 is not completely compatible with Windows 10.
It seems to mostly compatible, except for one thing: The feature in the toolbar you use to resize brushes, text, cropping pixels, etc. doesn't work like it used to.
It used to be where, if you wanted to resize a paint brush, for instance, you would click in the size box (in the toolbar) and you could move the brush to the picture and roll your mouse wheel until you resize the brush to the proper size, but now, with Windows 10, it just changes the size of the picture. If you are trying to make the brush smaller, it doesn't make the brush smaller, it just makes the picture smaller, and vice-versa.
You have to keep you mouse pointer only in little size box in the toolbar to change the size of the brush, which is frustrating because it's easier to determine what size you want your brush to be if you can resize it on the picture itself.
So far that's the only flaw I have seen, one I hope Corel will be kind enough to send a fix out for.

As far as I can recall, Corel have never, ever produced a patch for a version older than the current version. So don't get your hopes up!So far that's the only flaw I have seen, one I hope Corel will be kind enough to send a fix out for.

Re: Windows 10 compatibility in older versions
Well, I know PSP x6 is still listed as "supported" on their support page - what exactly that means I'm not sure, except that I can submit a support ticket, which I'll probably do to see what they say. I hear some people with the current version are having problems. I don't want to upgrade to x7 because x8 will probably be out sooner than latter, and x7 didn't offer that much new that interested me. But regardless, probably best not to get my hopes up!Ken Berry wrote:As far as I can recall, Corel have never, ever produced a patch for a version older than the current version. In that case I hope you are aware that if you have had the program more than 30 days, Corel these days require payment for tech support. Some people get answers free, though, from Corel's PaintShop Facebook page which is staffed by Corel employees, apparently...Well, I know PSP x6 is still listed as "supported" on their support page - what exactly that means I'm not sure, except that I can submit a support ticket

That's a good idea - I just wrote to them via their Facebook page explaining the problem.Ken Berry wrote:In that case I hope you are aware that if you have had the program more than 30 days, Corel these days require payment for tech support. According to their website, they do offer "Free Online Technical Support" if your product is registered and it says "Corel supports the current and previous version of your product" and says "please ensure your product is supported." They also offer "Priority Paid Support...If you are out of warranty or have how-to questions." That's a little confusing so I think I'll try going through Facebook first and see what they have to say.

Re: Windows 10 compatibility in older versions
I just downloaded X8 and I have the same issue in Windows 10. It works as normal in X7 in windows 10. It bugs me so much I've been busy the largest part of the day (!) to find something in the settings and in the help feature.

Found the solution It's a W10 setting. Find the cursor on the screenshot and switch the bloody thing off!! (-;
Alternatively you can hold the Alt key down while moving you mouse

Re: Windows 10 compatibility in older versions
For those with a similar problem in Windows 10, that screen can be found in Settings > Devices, not under Control Panel > Device Manager or Devices and Printers.

Re: Windows 10 compatibility in older versions
Thank you! I was beginning to think it was just me having this problem! I even thought it might be my mouse, so I dug out an old mouse and tried that, but the problem persisted. Again, thank you for the help!marq101 wrote:Found the solution It's a W10 setting. Find the cursor on the screenshot and switch the bloody thing off!! (-;

Whatever software you have on your PC at the time of upgrading to Windows 10, no software is uninstalled and works just as it did in the previous version of windows.

Re: Windows 10 compatibility in older versions
That is not true. Microsoft has already said that older software or peripherals may not work with Win10, so I'm not upgrading. I'm not a power user. I don't play games. I have Win8 already set up exactly how I want it, and it does everything I need it to do.trueblue wrote:Whatever software you have on your PC at the time of upgrading to Windows 10, no software is uninstalled and works just as it did in the previous version of windows.
