Hi, i am using corel video studio X7. I am wondering if there is a way to replace/relink video clips already on the timeline with the same video, but a different format, but still using the same time stamp. i can't relink, as there are too many files, different speeds etc and this is impossible. I can easily replace files with a different one, but it only uses the time from the beginning, and maybe i have a clip from the middle selection, it doesn't copy it over. So i have the clip in the timeline is of low quality, and i want to replace the clip with a higher quality, but it is still the same video clip, but when i do this is only takes the clip from the beginning instead of the time stamp i originally did on the first clip. any ideas?

Well, you do demand a bit more from a sub $100 program that not aimed at offline/online work .
I have a crazy idea I want to check first and I will be very amazed if it will work.

You have to redo the trims/cuts that you made for the original clip unless I don't quite understand what you are doing. What do you mean by "time stamp"?

Re: Replace / Relink a clip with different format?
OK, Laura. After about a hour of tests, trial and errors I was able to switch clips. But the "switch to" source clips can't be shorter than the source used clips even by 1 frame, must be at exactly the same path and obviously same frame rate.
I did so on just 2 clips project with crossfade. I have no idea what will happen in a zillion edits project.
If you will zip your VSP and post it for me to download and write me full information in PM, I'll try to help.
I can't guaranty success and I can't guaranty frame accuracy.

So what happens if a section has been trimmed from the beginning of the clip and then you replace this clip with the "identical" clip that is in a different format? Does the same amount automatically get trimmed when the new clip is inserted?asik1 wrote:OK, Laura. After about a hour of tests, trial and errors I was able to switch clips. Re: Replace / Relink a clip with different format?
This was discussed some months ago... my question is similar but hopefully simpler.
I have copied clips into the (C-drive) X8 library, that are currently linked into a project from a folder on a removable storage unit. How can I re-point and re-link the same clips in the project to their copies in the library location? Both "Replace clip..." and "Relink" want me to point the folder location of the library and I am unable to find the directory or folder location myself. (Would be nice if VS defaulted to looking in its own library with smart search).
Instead of using the VS library, I COULD place those copied clips into a folder (ie, directory) that I create myself under the C: root. Then I could easily re-point to that. In either case, (library location or my own), when I relink, would I have to trim and apply FX all over again?
TIA.

Re: Replace / Relink a clip with different format?
krm,
the VS library does not contain the copies of any files but only a link to the where the file is actually located.
Why do you need to relink? Did you move the files from their original locations? The program of course looks for the files in the link that was placed into the library.
I never use the library for my files but always create a folder and place in it all my files (copies) that I use in my project.

Ah, so. Thanks canuck, I'll follow that procedure from now on.
I wanted to place the media items on the C drive, rather than on a usb-connected unit in hopes of getting better performance on playback. With more than one clip on overlays, the playback is not smooth. I thought perhaps it is not cached or cache is full. This might not matter when rendering completed video, but hadn't got there yet.
