I'm afraid I only have X8 available to test and that's worked fine with W10, sorry can't be of more help than that.

...I too wonder about X6. But, when I get the desire, I will clone my current hard drive and then do the update. If it fails to recognize all of the programs I use, I'll stay with Win7 Pro. Nothing too compelling at the moment to force me to upgrade the OS.

FWIW, I have X7 on three computers I have converted to Win 10 (one Win 10 Pro and all 64 bit). X7 appears to work just fine on all of them -- though I should note that I only tried a couple of simple projects. As already noted, X8 works well too so I am at a bit of a loss as to exactly what Corel says it intends to issue a patch for it soon, apparently to make it fully compatible with Win 10.

I also have X7 and was attempting to make a video today. I've scoured the internet for the past hour or so and most of what I'm seeing looks like they have basically stopped supporting anything below X8. While the application seems to run and doesn't crash, and in many cases still seems to work perfectly, videos that happen to be recorded via the Windows 10 photo/camera tool in the Start Menu will NOT play back video once it is added to the project. What's odd is that the "preview" works fine and the audio doesn't seem to be affected, but placing it into the tray accepts the video as an image. Other than that, I'm not seeing too many issues, but this becomes a huge hassle since I recorded about 8 hours of video this way.

Unfortunately, I am not sure which app you are talking about. I have now updated to Win 10 on 5 of my computers so far (and currently doing a sixth!), and none of them have a 'photo/camera tool' listed in the Start menu. There is 'Camera' but that seems to only link to my webcams and I can't imagine anyone recording 8 hours of webcam video. There is also Photos, but that appears to just be a photo management tool. So could you please give more details. In particular, in X7 can you right click on one of the video clips in the library window and copy ALL its Properties here or take a screen grab of the Properties box and upload it here as an attachment.

You installed VS on a Windows 10 machine. Does your printer, and other peripherals function properly? Is the computer networked and functioning correctly? What about software like Xara, Green Screen Wizard, etc.? What about USB 3 drivers? I find it hard to believe that there are no problems regarding the aforementioned. I would like to know the details, please. I heard a clean install does not accept your Windows 7 key and that the upgrade is only for systems with an OS already installed?

I am not sure if this was directed at me or JeiEvans. But all of my upgrades to Win 10 were done by overwriting the existing OS ( 1 x Win 8.1 Pro, 1 x Win 8.1 Home, 4 x Win 7 Home). And yes, that too is my understanding about the free upgrade offered by Microsoft. The question of Win 7 (or 8/8.1) keys does not arise since the installation process reads what is already there, and updates to a new key when Win 10 is activated. But of course Windows 10 is also available commercially for clean installs and using a new key in the download or packaging.

In my own case, all six of the computers I have upgraded appear to be functioning well. Only one has USB 3 ports and they certainly work well. All the computers are on my home network and talk to each other quite happily on that, particularly now that they are all on the same wavelength of my Microsoft account! Moreover my wireless colour laser printer (a Brother) is accessible and works with all of them.

The oldest computer I updated was a 9 year old Quad 6600 which used to be my main video editing machine back in the day. But it is still operating well, and seems a little faster with Win 10. An 8 year old HP Core 2 Duo also seems to work a little faster (though is the one anomaly I have found in the whole upgrade process. The digital assistant Cortana which comes as part of Win 10 in North America, has not yet been released in other parts of the world -- apparently because it currently only understands North American accents -- apart from Quebecois I imagine! And so none of my computers even show Cortana -- except this one HP! And Cortana happily accepts my antipodean accent if I speak clearly enough... But the strange thing is why it does so on only one of the computers!! )

Re: Corel X7 will not start after Upgrade to Win10

Post by MrSpecies7 »

I too could not get VS Pro Ultimate to start after upgrade to windows 10.
The first time I went to launch program it failed and said I was missing msvcr100 dll and to reinstall the program.
I tried the file fixer that installs the mscvr file but it did not fix the problem.
As I use this software everyday i was forced to roll-back to Win 8.1

Do I need to uninstall VSX7 then upgrade to win 10 and then re-install VSP X-7 ?? or will it still not work.
Any help would be so great folks.

I'm afraid we are still in the very early days of practical experimentation with Win 10, and you are one of the guinea pigs. As I have already indicated here and elsewhere, my own X7 seems to work OK under Win 10. Others are reporting problems. But only you will be able to tell us if your idea of uninstalling X7, then updating to Win 10 and reinstalling X7 works. That was certainly not necessary in my own case, but maybe in yours...

And unfortunately, I don't think Corel will be looking too closely at X7 when the current version is X8 and they have already indicated a patch is on the way for that, which is apparently supposed to fix some incompatibilities with Win 10.

Just to reiterate a point we often make here, none of us on this Board work for Corel. We are all users like you who volunteer our time to try to help others. So we can only hope that another user has had the same problem as you and found a way around it. So far, no one has reported a solution.
