fixing a corrupted mp4 file
I have 15 minutes of a corrupted .mp4 file from my GoPRo Silver 3+. It crashes my Corel Video Studio x5 when I attempt to load it. I found a company that will fix it for 80 bucks. They also sent me samples showing that they can fix it.
Any recomendationss of where I can get my own copy of a program that will fix files? I'd rather see if I can pay that kind of money for something reputable and keep a hold onto it.

Lots of video converter programs, some free. Internet search video converters. Format Factory is very good and may be able to deal with your file. Make sure when you install that you read everything during the download and during the install; most of the latest techniques involve installing unwanted and unnecessary stuff in your pc... Al

Have you installed the two patches available from Corel
http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/suppor ... sion-tab=3
They claim to improve compatibility with some video formats including Mp4

Re: fixing a corrupted mp4 file
I appreciate the responses. Is Format Factory a tool that can correct a corrupted file or just convert it?

Re: fixing a corrupted mp4 file
It all depends on what is corrupted, if it is the meta data, then "converting" it to exactly the same as what it is will often fix it.
If the actual video data is lost you'll never get it back.

How do you know it is corrupt? Just because it crashes VS X5 doesn't mean it is corrupt.
Does it play with VLC or some other software player?

This particular .mp4 file doesn't play on VLC, Windows 7 Media Player, Quick time, GoPro Studio or Corel x5.

Re: fixing a corrupted mp4 file
OK perhaps I'm not clear with my situation. I have a file called GOPRO3784.MP4. The file can't be played on any media reader I referenced in this thread. I installed Format Factory as suggested per a member commenting in the thread. I attempted to convert the original .MP4 to a .mp4 format, it failed. Enclosed is a snapshot of my attempt.
I went to an online company, who quoted me 80 bucks and said they could fix my corrupt file. They sent me three 10 second snippets of the recovered file as proof that they can recover the whole 15 minutes of the clip called GOPRO3784.MP4.
I'm hoping a board member might be able to suggest a software program I can purchase so I can fix the file myself and have the software to do so if I encounter this issue again.

Re: fixing a corrupted mp4 file
If it was me, having done what you've said, then I would pay up the $80 and have them fix it for me, time is money and all that!!! Didn't realise they'd already had your file and the bits they sent you were from it.
Otherwise, having never had to do this myself, I have just googled video repair software and come up with lots of options, you could download them one by one and see if any work for you.
