Some small VS annoyances
I have been spending a bit more time on VS projects recently and found the following puzzling.
1. It now seems a requirement to login to Youtube before you can proceed anyway along the production of a file suitable for uploading there. This is a nuisance if all you want to do is produce a suitable file and upload it through another means.
2. When a 'smart package' is produced it does not include titles or any smart sound associated with the project (although it does include Tripplescoop music). One of the reasons for producing a smart package would be to take all the associated files across to another computer, so this would prevent continuing the project on another computer.
Regards, Peter.

** I never logged to UT from within VS and never asked to do so. Did you ever logged ?

*** Interesting, should be checked. could be a bug to corrected in X9

Asik1,
no I didn't bother logging in but I did think it might be a way of producing an ideal size file for you tube.

Re: Some small VS annoyances
Hi Peem
The initial login to you tube is to comply with YT security policies.
Yes I agree that we do not have the option to view the rendered file before uploading, for that reason I use the Share Mpeg4 profiles to render my project.
If I modify the MPEG-4 AVC (1280 x 720, 25p, 10Mbps) profile to use 5Mbps it is the same as the default YT profile. Although for quality I retain 10Mbps.
Play to check quality, then use the Web – YT option to upload the file.
Smart Package
I have not noticed that problem but a quick test showed the package as being created ok, mine included any Titles and Smart Sound
Opening the package would require the second pc to have X8 and auto music installed.
X8 should also be the same type 64bit or 32bit.
I did not have time to try on another pc but certainly opens ok in its own right.

Re: Some small VS annoyances
Peem you are correct, scorefiter audio that has been used in the project, is not saved in the package.
And of course fonts are not included.
Titles are part of the VSP file. Or you referring to SRT's which I did not check.

Re: Some small VS annoyances
Before I added any more to this thread I had intended to look at some older projects to see how they had been saved in smart package as I am pretty sure they included titles and smart sound music as Trevor says happened with his SP. However, they are now all on another hard drive which I can't access at the moment, so I thought I should add a bit more here or you will both think I am not appreciating your replies.
Trevor,
I haven't actually tried to move the SP files anywhere else recently but previously I did move them between my laptop and PC. I am pretty sure when I saved them in VS X6 I finished up with everything related to the project in the folder, but this time in X8, as I said, I am missing titles and smart sound.
So far as the Youtube login, I understand the reasons for requiring it but with our pathetic Internet connection I am always looking for ways to decrease file sizes and you would think VS might suggest the best option when you followed that 'Share' a route even if I had no intention of completing the upload via that route. Have noted your suggested settings.
So, thanks both for your replies and I will play around a bit further with all of this when I can access everything I need.
Regards, Peter

Re: Some small VS annoyances
I forgot to add to my last post that I have been saving files as .MOV with, I think from memory, similar settings to your suggestion Trevor and they are working at about half the size of MP4s.

Re: Some small VS annoyances
The supplied upload to Youtube is not smart or intelligent in any way - it just makes the specified file format and uploads it - it does not change it at all.
The best way for you is to be to experiment a little - find out what format looks good for your videos and then upload them manually outside of VideoStudio
Like Trevor I do not like using the VideoStudio option because you cannot see what your video looks like before it is uploaded - far better to make the video - check it out - then upload

Re: Some small VS annoyances
Thanks Brian,
That is the way I have done it previously - make a file first that looks okay to me and then upload it through my normal browser. But I always have the reservation that it may not be in the most efficient format to suit Youtube if it then has to convert it to something else. Since we only have a few GB of Internet per month I try not to waste it and am always looking for the most efficient file type to upload - hence my thoughts on exploring the VS Share route, to see what file settings it offered, even if I did not intend to follow through and uploaded by that route. It would have been interesting to compare the file types offered by all the VS upload options -Vimeo etc to see how they differed in size and quality but Youtube is the only one I can sign into. So on to Plan B...

Re: Some small VS annoyances
Peter,
YT converts everything.
You are giving VS more brains that it has or intended to have regarding YT.
This is what bothers VS for YT.
MAX_LIMIT_FILE_SIZE_MB = 4096
MAX_LIMIT_FILE_DURATION_MIN = 600
Nothing quality wise.
