Using VS X8 and wanting to replace a 10 second clip at the start of a project with the same length from a 30 minute clip I thought I would do a rough cut first so I didn’t push everything 30 minutes to the right when I inserted the first clip. I loaded the 30 minute clip into a separate project, cut a minute or so containing the bit I wanted and deleted the rest. It was a MOV format and I figured if I selected ‘same as first clip’ under the ‘share’ tab and with the ‘enable smart render’ option checked there would be no re-rendering involved. I checked the box at the top of the page under ‘create a video that you can play on your computer’ but was unable to change the option to ‘same as first clip’. I tried altering project settings to MOV format and also are a few other options but nothing allowed me to select ‘same as first clip’. When I tried to search for ‘same as first clip’ on this site I got the message that the search was impossible because the words were too common! Before I start uploading clip properties etc here - am I doing something wrong?
Regards, Peter

No need for separate project.
- Why don't you trim that clip in the library ( Single Clip Trim)? and replace your first clip
Read page 95.

Re: ‘Same as first clip’ not selectable.
Thanks Asik1
that would have been the more sensible idea. I have done so previously and must remember to do it again, but it still doesn't explain why the same as first clip option could not be selected.

Re: ‘Same as first clip’ not selectable.
Hi Peter
There are hundreds of flavours/variations of video files.
The “Same as first clip” will not work with all types, I am guessing your files properties are not full supported by Video Studio, it may be the audio or video codec that the program does not like or cannot replicate. If that is the case then your only option is to render to other settings.
I assume also that Show Messages to match the project properties will not work with the same file.
By the way Project Properties cannot be set to mov formats
