Playback "Clip" is nice, playback "Project" is horrible

Hi All. I have installed Corel VideoStudio Pro X8 Trial. I'm not an absolute novice in video editing, I edited my home videos on Apple iMac for several years. VideoStudio is very nice application, but I have a big problem with it. When I switch to "Clip", playback is fine, after switching to "Project" playback is jerky and pixelated. I used the sample clip installed with application and made a very short video. After I rendered it, the final video was jerky and pixelated too. So VideoStudio Pro X8 has a problem even with it's own sample clip! What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance. Peter

First of all, the "trial" version has many features/options missing or crippled and that may affect the results.

Since you have given no information on exactly what you are doing (what input, what output settings, etc) it is impossible to tell what you are doing wrong. I doubt very much that it is a problem with X8 Pro

Thank You canuck for Your reply. My first testing step by step:

1) I run VideoStudio application
2) Then I drag and drop first sample clip to timeline
3) Press "Play" button - playback is fine
4) I switch playback mode to "Project", playback is pixelated and jerky
5) Rendering give the same pixelated clip

No settings, only this simple test. With source clip from my camcorder same result.

Thank You BrianCee for Your reply. When I placed clip on the timeline, playback was fine in the "Clip" mode and very bad in the "Project" mode. It's not actually problem of rendering of final video.

Possibly because your project properties are not the same as the video properties

What are the clip properties -- what are the project properties.

When you play in 'Clip' mode VideoStudio uses the clip properties

When you play in 'Project' mode VideoStudio uses the project properties

Data rate 15000 Kbps

Project properties (video):

Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080
25 frames /sec
Upper Field First

More or other settings is not available in trial version.

The properties of this clip are completely different from the project properties you posted. You said other properties are not available in the trial version so how did you get these properties of the VS rendered video?

Settings -> Project Properties -> (select) -> OK

I tried New -> General ... but there are only few options available.

I assumed that default settings and sample clip in trial version are compatible.

Properties of Corel sample clip:

MPEG-4
H.264 High Profile Video
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 16:9
25 frames/sec
Data rate 15000 Kbps

My DELL computer had probably problem only with Corel Videostudio. I installed SONY Movie Studio Platinum and all works fine. Rendered movie have perfect quality. Studio from SONY automatically detect and setup project properties from source clip. Playback is smooth, as well as the final video.
