Two videos on one disc

Post by Irishrose »

I am creating projects in VideoStudio X7 using photographs and adding background music to create the modern version of the old family movies. After the projects are created I would like to burn more than one to a disc. In other words like a video you could purchase with two movies on a single DVD. I would like to save them using the Blu-ray setting.

I have created projects with chapter points set in them and saved them using the Blu-ray setting. However, when I place the disc into the Blu-ray player it just begins playing. The blu-ray player does not recognize the chapter set points and I don't see the title screen.

Has anyone saved more than one project to a disc and are there any tutorials to help?

Thank you for your help.

Yes it is quite possible to have two - or even more videos on a DVD - you are only limited by the size of the videos and whether there is room for all of them on the disc

Have you created a menu structure on the disc - when you go to "Share >> Create Disc >> Blu-ray" and inserted both videos -have you then created a proper menu - so that when you put the disc in a player the first thing which appears onxcreen is a menu page allowing you to choose which video to watch

Chapter points created in the editing timeline do not always carry through to the Share screen - I find it better to create chapters in the create disc window - then it seems to work.

Hi

You should convert / render your projects to a compliant Bluray file.

Share –AVC/H.264 could be used to do that, try this Profile
AVC (1920 x 1080, 50i, 18Mbps) Maybe AVC (1920 x 1080, 60i, 18Mbps)

Once the projects have been rendered to Bluray M2ts file, you can play to check quality

To burn a disc start a new project
Share – Disc – Bluray that opens the burner module.
Top left for Add Media – Add Video file. – choose all videos created earlier.

Each video added here will create a link / thumbnail on the Main / Title menu.

Bottom left for Project Settings allows you to set the Navigation Controls
Deselect Auto Repeat unless you wish to watch the disc forever
Set the Clip Playback option.

Back to menu will play the selected title then return to the menu,
Navigation affects the Titles not Chapters.

If you wish to use chapter points they can be added to each title from the first window.

Now I don’t know why your disc did not play correctly, I would use only Titles to see if those work ok.
Then Add Chapters, that’s if you feel the need for chapters.

I'm guessing maybe the files have been written as data files to a bluray disc, rather than the OP authoring a bluray disc.

Thank you for your helpful advice, everyone has been very nice in helping me as I am learning to use Videostudio. The software is fantastic and the finished projects are much more than I expected. I am very pleased with the program and all the possibilities it offers.

I've created several videos that when saved in MPEG-4 are about 2.02 GB in size. Videostudio had no problem using a DVD+R to create discs using the Blu-ray setting. The last couple videos I've created are almost twice the size at about 3.59 GB. When I try to use the same setting to create discs the program is unable to do this. I should also mention that my DVD drive is not a Blu-ray.

What I would like to do is to burn a disc that is viewable on the TV. It doesn't matter if it requires a DVD or Blu-ray player for viewing, I just want a nice quality finished project.

Can someone suggest the best way to go about this, or suggest a tutorial that will help me ?

A DVD which will play in a standard DVD player to a TV must have mpeg-2 files on it - so you need to convert your mp4's to mpg2 first

the size of a video file is governed not only by it's length but by the frame size and more importantly the bit rate (data rate)

if you stick with the standard of 8000 kbps you should be able to get about 1 hour of video on a standard disc - dropping the bit rate will also drop the file size and I have dropped to 6000 kbps on occasions to get more than one hour with out a noticable drop in quality BUT that is the price you have to pay - lower bit rates = lower quality

Brian,

Thank you so much for your help. I created a copy of the same video in mpg-2 and mpg-4. When played on the TV, connected directly to a computer, the mpg-2 was of poor quality and the areas where light colors meet dark look pixelated. The mpg-4 is of much better quality and would be the better choice.

I did create a DVD using your suggestion but the quality was a described above.

Any suggestions on how to use the mpg-4 and burn it to a DVD+R disc?

You can't. The video on a standard DVD is always mpg2. If you take a mp4 video and burn it to a DVD it will be converted to mpg2

If you want better quality then mpg2 then you have get a BluRay player and burner

The other option is to use data videos played through a pc connected to your tv, or if the tv accepts memory sticks write a data video file to that and use the memory stick.
