CANNOT CREATE A VIDEO FILE
I use the X7 Pro 64bit version 17.1.0.22
For some strange reason I cannot create an MPEG or WMV file.
I can see it creating the file in the designated folder - then when it finishes it just disappears.
Without muttering a bad word I have tried a few times without any happy ending - any advice?
There are updates available.
Thanks Mike

Re: CANNOT CREATE A VIDEO FILE
No error messages at all ??
do you get a message "The file has been rendered successfully "
the file renders to the folder shown in the bar just above the "Start" button in the Share screen - is that the folder you are looking in - that location can be different to your specified working folder
have you done a search of your hard drive for a file with the name you specified for the render - could be somewhere else on your system.

Re: CANNOT CREATE A VIDEO FILE
That was fast Brian.
No error messages and I cannot find it in the system. When I try it knows where the folder is but cannot find the file - strange.
While it is rendering I see the file in the folder and when the rendering is complete it POOOOF disappears.
I was making disks a few days ago - lots of them and I cannot really remember when last I made a file for sending to someone.
The project SAVE AS function works and I do get a VSP file.
I decided to switch of the PC and reload it - it used to work twenty years ago http://forum.corel.com/EN/images/icons/ ... rgreen.gif
It is now rendering again hang on a moment - please. Finished and NO error messages also NO file.
I cannot send you a screen capture so please believe me the file started there until rendering was completed.
Probably not a VS problem - but it certainly is strange. Does VS have an error message log?

Re: CANNOT CREATE A VIDEO FILE
You have me confused - you say "While it is rendering I see the file in the folder " - how are you doing that ?
The project "Save as" is nothing to do with rendering - you need to use the "Share" tab to render
do you have a project in your timeline - then go to "Share" and choose to make a videofile to play on a computer - - or what ?

Re: CANNOT CREATE A VIDEO FILE
My target file setup has a name and a path to the target folder.
The two boxes above the START button as you kindly mentioned.
I have two screens and on the aux screen I have the target folder open.
When I click the START button I can see the target file open and each refresh you can see the file getting bigger.
So far so good. When you get to the end of the rendering and the SHARE screen sits waiting for a new job the file I was watching disappears. I kid you not.
One of the kids is an IT guy and by chance spoke to him (returning a call from early this morning - as usual) and he suggested I run HerdProtect a cloud based scan program - that found some problems. He also suggested I also re-install VStudio. The app is still running.

Re: CANNOT CREATE A VIDEO FILE
As Brian asked above do you do the message "The file has been rendered successfully " after it completes?
While rendering you should see 3 files being created in your folder. The extension should be ".a", ".v" and the final ".mp4" or something similar. Do you see those?

Re: CANNOT CREATE A VIDEO FILE
NONE of the above.
There is no message that I saw implying it was successful (I assume I have to click something for it to disappear) and there was only one file in the folder.
Would reinstalling be positive direction?
Thanks both of you for your prompt assistance.

Re: CANNOT CREATE A VIDEO FILE
So what was the extension of the file in the folder? There should be 3 while rendering?
Have you tried to render another (simple) project?

Re: CANNOT CREATE A VIDEO FILE
Yough I am embarrassed I didn't think of that. I thought that maybe the Canon 7D mk II was the problem. I took a small clip from another event and lo and b... behold I got three files while rendering and now I get an output file and a "happy message" message.
I'll redo the project starting with one clip and then all if that is no good I'll do half and half.
Many thanks for your wisdom and calmness - I'll let you know what happens.
Excellent help you have - I hope you are having fun

Re: CANNOT CREATE A VIDEO FILE
So far it would seem that video from my Canon 7D MK II will only permit me to make MPEG-4 files.
I tried MPEG-2 and WMV to no avail - I didn't try MPEG-4
I will of course try later with old files from a 7D or from a video camera.
Bit strange.

Re: CANNOT CREATE A VIDEO FILE
In what format are you recording the video with your Canon 7D Mark II? I have a Canon 6D and have recorded some video and VS X7 has no problem when rendering to other formats.
Exactly what are your settings when trying to render to mpeg2 or wmv?

Re: CANNOT CREATE A VIDEO FILE
The fourth out of four clips is bad - the other three are fine - in any format.
I'll cut it in half and try again and find the bad section.
Have no idea what to look for but when I find the bad segment I'll cut that in two as well and so on.
Was recording from a recorded TV show - maybe that had something to do with it?
Thanks for your amazing baby-sitting - enjoy your 6D.

Re: CANNOT CREATE A VIDEO FILE
Well with hindsight having the rendering reach 100% and then fail I should have realized the end had a problem.
Actually it was a happy ending on film
I just chopped off half a minute each time until it worked. Not all formats create three temporary files.
Thanks again for your help.
