How to activate a legitimate copy of PSPX

Post by Joelle »

A user in the Corel Newsgroups is getting very frustrated that he can't use PSPX on his laptop. It ran out after 30 days and he can't re-activate it.
He has paid for it :-)
He contacted Corel who say that the authentication servers are no longer active.
When he contacted them they said that he must upgrade.
Not for them to say, if this user wants to continue using his legitimately purchased software.

Any ideas what he can do?

This is a continual problem with our much beloved older software. When you are reliant upon a communication with the mother company to activate your software. If it changes servers, goes out of business (Jasc effectively did this, so activating / registering jasc versions not possible now).
This is the continual push by companies to throw away and update perfectly good software / hardware etc.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

He could use an old legal key number. If someone doesn't use PSP X anymore, he could give his number.
The non legal way is possible too...

I had been thinking along the lines of giving him my old PSPX key, haven't used X for years, but it is registered in my name, so might get me into trouble.
Also if the activation servers no longer work than nothing will activate it.

I can see why he likes it, it was a good version.
I can't blame Corel for drumming up business, but this is not the way to do it.

Register the programm and activate it are two different things.
Activation is made by the key number. No internet is needed. I had some time 3 same versions on 3 different computers in different locations. Two of them were not connected to internet.
To register is not needed. It works only for after-sale service (???) or some administrative aspects.
