4kprores .mov files keep unlinking! video studio X7 ultimate

Post by laura05 »

i am currently having a few problems with video studio ultimate X7. First of all i have a 4 min music video edited, using a mixture of 4kprores .mov files and the 'stop motion' files from corel. The problem i have is that the .mov files keep unlinking. When i try to relink, the files say its a format mismatch. anyway i managed to finish the edit regardless. Now i am unable to render as the files keep unlinking. so all i get are the 'stop motion' files showing in the final render.

I really need to fix this asap, as i have a deadline, please help!

i have now tried a few things, the files play fine in playback in the software. when i click on the thumbnails they work fine. then after 5 mins they don't work, asking to relink. when i try to relink, it says format mismatch.

so i decided to delete all the the thumbnails and re insert them, now it won't even let me do that, saying format mismatch? very random, how come it worked before?

help!

VideoStudio uses Quicktime to play .mov files - is your version of Quicktime up to date ?

I have Quicktime version 7.7.7 and I do not have any problems with .mov files.

yes quick time is up to date. i just managed to delete all the thumbnails and re insert them all again, its is playing back with no problems, however when i render its going super fast, and only showing the 'stop motion' files in the final file. i don't know what else to do.

when i go to the share section, the edit is fine, the files are all there and linked. and when i try to create a file, (i am compressing to an mpeg4 1080 file for online) it goes really fast. so i know its not rendering properly. when the render finishes and i go back to the edit, all the files are unlinked.

should i upgrade to video studio 8 ? does it work better with 4k proves files?

any other ideas?

Aren't ProRes files Apple files?
You appear to be using a windows 7 pc, so I'd have thought you'd need to output a windows compatible 4k file from the Apple computer for you to edit on your machine.

Hi Laura

I am a little confused with the reference to Stop Motion and the 4K video?

Where are the files stored? are they on an external drive? turning that off will loose the links and VS will request a re-link.
You say “when the render finishes and i go back to the edit, all the files are unlinked.” That does indeed seem strange?

Render speeds, yes if its particularly fast then maybe VS is not rendering correctly, and as you seem to be having problems that may be the case.

Turn off Smart Render and try rendering again.

the file that is giving me problem is the 4k prores files (.mov). i just tried moving the original files to another location on my computer and then relinking them and that didn't work either. i am going to try without smart render now.

the main problem is that it plays fine in edit mode, but when i go to render it un links the files. very very frustrating. i was able to do all the editing and now i can't render, any other suggestions?

Hi Laura

When you say un-links…..
The clips shows as black and white…
But does the program actually request a re-link?

There have been instances that clips show B&W with no re-link request, I don’t think that has been solved.

Just wondered which you are seeing?

thats exactly what is happening, they go black and white, with no re link option. when i moved the original video files to another location on the computer it did ask me for a relink, then i started relinking one by one, when i saved it, it all unlinked again. so i am at a loss.

do you think if i re-install the software or upgrade to the 8 would help?

Hi Laura

There was another poster with a similar issue, Black and White yet no re-link.
It is possible to replace the clip with the same file, if you know which one it is.

Right click the B&W for Replace Clip, browse the hard drive
Or drag the clip from the library whilst holding Ctrl key, drop over B&W clip will also replace the clip.

I will search for the other post to see what outcome.
I don’t know if using X8 will cure the problem.

If you can provide a sample file or two, maybe upload to Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive, Dropbox.
We can try X8 for you assuming we can replicate the problem.

hi, unfortunately it keeps coming up 'file format mismatch'. its all a bit weird. i did another smaller version of the video 2 weeks ago with the same files, a sample video and it rendered with no problem. i opened the same file a few days ago and it was fine. now when i open the sample video file, its now doing the same thing. Do you think its an issue with the original footage? should i delete all the original footage off the computer and then remove all the 'smart proxy' files, then reload the original files back onto the computer and re-compress new smart proxy files. maybe that would work?

Hi Laura

There seems to be a few odd things going on…..

You can first try deleting all proxy files, just in case they are causing problems.

If you wish to re-load all files again to a different folder you could try that, unless you have space issues, in which case remove the originals first.

Ok

Hi, with regards the below comment, this is the computer i have: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/ ... 5-pdt.html

plus if the software and PC couldnt handle the format or the files, it wouldnt have let me complete the entire edit, 50 hours of work, only to get to the end and not work. plus i had already done a test on the footage with a sample and it worked perfectly! so it is definately something else.
