Blu-ray Discs won't play

Post by skuppy »

Hi

I am using videostudio pro x8, win7 64 bit
Just finished a project ,about 45 mins in length
I have burnt the project to bluray
The disc won't play on my computer (says unsupported)
And when I play in my Sony bluray player and PS3 the video freezes straight away

What is wrong
I have now tried 2 Blu-ray Discs and both had same result

I have burnt blurays before with videostudio pro x4 no problems

Appreciate your help

You say you burned your project to Blu-Ray. If you mean that literally, then I suggest that instead of that, you might want to try first converting your project to Blu-Ray compatible AVCHD or mpeg-2 in the editing module. The go to Share > Blu-Ray. When the burning module opens, your project will be in the timeline. Delete it and go to the Add Video button in the top left of screen and add your new BD compatible file instead. Then proceed from there. To avoid making another expensive coaster, you might first want to make an ISO or BD folder on the final page instead of an actual disc.

With the new requirement to purchase separate Plug In for Blu-ray in X8, can anyone tell me if this permits playing Blu-ray disc outside the VS program -as in straight off my Super Multi Blu-ray burner which currently is incapable of playing finished BD movies burned whilst in the VS X8 medium with legitimately purchase plug in? Or must I buy yet another BD player software to do that? It all gets a bit hard and out of control with all the loopholes industry seem to create for revenue gain alone.
Appreciate any feedback to fix this curly one without all the cumulative baggage that arrives with "free" software which is not free at all for such as I by the time I get someone else to clean up the mess I seem to find hidden in the freebee!

Hi Skipper

Are you saying that you purchased Video Studio X8 and have NOT bought the Bluray plugin.
If so how did you burn a Bluray using X8, or did you burn a AVCHD disc.?

Earlier versions or the program had the Bluray authoring module included within the program

For licencing reasons Corel took the action to separate the Bluray authoring module from the main X8 software, something most of us could not understand, other than it being a cost saving exercise.

The cost is minimal and adds the module to the program which then works like any other earlier program X7 / X6 etc.

All Bluray discs created using the program should play on your Bluray players, if there is a problem it is usually with the player and disc compatibility type, of course there is always the problem of the burner not creating a good disc.
In my experience I have not had a problem with any discs I have made with the program, hopefully that will continue.

And should you have difficulty with the idea of paying extra for the BD burning in VS, there is an excellent freeware alternative in the form of ImgBurn. You just need to read its manual carefully before venturing into it.

Help creating the right project

Post by skuppy »

Hi Guys

I am having trouble burning my project
I have videostudio ultimate pro x8 on win7 64 bit
My project runs for like 45 mins (m2ts files and music etc)
Ideally I want to burn on a bluray
I have tried this a few times
Everytime the burns completes I cannot play the disc on the computer or a bluray player / ps3
The computer gives me the error 'the disc was created in a manner that the player does not support'
And when playing the disc in my sony bluray player, the video simply freezes at the start
So then I tried burning a AVCHD disc using a DVD+R DL
Same result , cant play it
What am I doing wrong ?
My method has been editing the video etc then selecting share and selecting either bluray or avchd
I have never had so much trouble burning discs since moving from pro x4 to pro x8
Appreciate your help

Have you purchased the bluray plugin?
What is the folder structure on the blu ray disc?
What is the folder structure on the dvd disc?

Your workflow should work, but often doesn't. That is why I suggested above, and repeat here:
I suggest that instead of that, you might want to try first converting your project to Blu-Ray compatible AVCHD or mpeg-2 in the editing module. Then go to Share > Blu-Ray. When the burning module opens, your project will be in the timeline. Delete it and go to the Add Video button in the top left of screen and add your new BD compatible file instead. Then proceed from there.
In other words, when you finish your editing, you DON"T immediately jump to the disc options, but convert the project to another video file which is Blu-Ray compliant. This can be either a BD transport stream mpeg-2 or AVCHD. If you choose the mpeg-2 option you select Share > MPEG-2 then in the dropdown menu, select one of high def options (1920 x 1080). And also Share > AVCHD, but make sure there you select an option which does NOT use 50 or 60 full fps (unless you select the 1280 x 720 option). For some strange reason the international BD standard only accepts 50/60 fps for 1280 x 720 format.

In the burning module, also click on the Options cogwheel icon in the bottom left of screen and make sure the box beside "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" is ticked. This will ensure your new video which you have inserted in the burning timeline is not converted again as part of the burning process.

Hi Chris

I was a little confused with the reply from Skipper earlier, similar name to yours, I did not realise it was a different person.

Clearly you have purchased the Bluray plug-in, the recommended workflow is the best way to go, having said that if the process has completed and burned a disc there is no reason why it should not play.
The quality may not be as good as can be --- but it should play.

If you first render the project to a new video file (bluray compliant) your original video files may be bluray compliant, if so use their properties for the render.
You can then use that in X4 to burn a disc.

If that also fails then the problem is probably with your burner?
If successful then its X8?

You cannot continue creating coasters and I would consider re-installing the program.
