Flashing numbers in top right of display

Post by martymonster »

I just transferred an analogue video via my DV camcorder into VS9 using the firewire cable. During the transfer into VS9 I noticed that in the top right hand corner of the video display there was a number flashing continuosly. On average, the displayed number is 50 but can vary (usually down).
I have never had this happen before and have transferred many videos previously both analogue via camcorder and digital from camcorder.
Now, whenever I use VS9 or my HDTV capture card, there is always this flashing of numbers in the top right corner of the video display.
If I edit and save a VS9 project to DVD, the DVD also has this flashing display.

My PC is running Win XP SP2.

I know this is a long shot, but has any one seen this before and how can it be stopped?

Check you VCR or camcorder. As far as I know there is now function in Videostudio that will have a flashing number throughout the whole capture.

You're probably running FRAPS, which is a video benchmarking utility. It's showing the current framerate because UVS is using the DirectShow video overlay.

Thanks THoff, I am not running FRAPS but that is exactly what it seems to be doing.
I do not have any benchmarking utils except prime95.
The only other video related progs are
VideoReDo - convert file formats
ProjectX - convert Topfield PVR files
Sonic MyDVD Studio
DNTV Live - for my HDTV card

None of those have any options as far as I can see to do this.

If the numbers are yellow on a black background, it could still be FRAPS. Check Task Manager for a process named FRAPS.EXE if your System Tray is configured to not show inactive icons.

If that doesn't pan out, download the DirectX Control Panel applet from HERE, and place the file named DIRECTX.CPL into your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory. Next, go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> DirectX -> DirectDraw -> Advanced, and see if the "Show Framerate" option is enabled. If so, turn it off.

Thanks for your help THoff but I could not find FRAPS on the PC (did a search). I downloaded the CPL but it said it was NOT enabled. So that pointed me to something else. I have ATI Tools runnings, I checked some options and found that the OSD for the Frame meter was ticked. I cleared that and all is now OK.

Thankyou for your help.

Sorry, I didn't know ATI's drivers have that option. I had a really bad experience with their drivers years ago (loved their hardware, hated the crappy drivers), switched to NVIDIA, and never looked back.
