Cannot capture either on X4 or X8

OK - carried out some tests

VideoStudio X8 on Windows 7 professional - using Panasonic GS300 camera connected by firewire

I can capture with no problems at all - not only capture but have full control

for me there are no problems.

Brian -- I assume you have the full version of X8 on that computer, and not the trial version...?

Yes - I have the full version

that was the purpose of the test - to see if the fact that Pavel has the trial version *MAY* be the reason that the firewire capture doesn't work

Hi, it finally all works as I wished! Ken, Brian thanks a lot for your patience and help.
Initially, the system did not want to install camera driver with the legacy driver, then it installed Microsoft driver for DV cameras and I only could capture DV instead of HDV. I do not know what I did

but after a few trials I managed to install Canon HV30 driver and covered this all on top by the paid version of VS and now it works exactly as I wish. Thanks a lot guys for the time you invested into my issue!

I,m back. So I guess I toasted the canopus because I cannot even change from digital in to analog in. It just has both light lit and will not change. Anyway I got a USB diamond VC5oo and it will capture in X4 but for some reason it will not capture in X8. When I try to capture it gives the error "Unable to switch to capture mode. Check if your video capture driver is working properly" I have checked the driver and it says it is working properly and apparently must be because it works in X4. Any ideas how to get it working in X8?

I don't know the Diamond VC500 but many of those capture devices - and I have one of a different make - are "tweaked" so that they only work with the software supplied with them and it is probably just a coincidence it works in X4.

Did you get any software with the device - can you capture using that ? and import to VideoStudio.

Yes I can use the bundled software or use X4 to capture. I have not tried to import yet as I just used X4 to capture and seems to work good. I have not imported X4 to X8 or the capture card to X8 yet. I am just trying to cut down some steps.
