Hi guys
Kind of wanted to say hello to the forum and introduce myself but could also use a little advice to help get me started.
For very many years I have been making videos with Pinnacle Studio 12.1 but since moving to a 64bit Win 7 pro machine poor old Pinnacle just could not cut it.
Most videos are made for my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/mikesndbs but also a number for family viewing.
Have to say I find Studio X8 both amazing and bewildering just now.
Splitting clips, multi split, before it wa a simple split icon above the trim line, now seems more involved.
Triple scoop music, seem to have 17 tracks, is that the limit of it?
When I installed I got a lot of bonus material etc, where will I find that please?
Preview playback, this seems disappointingly low quality and jumpy, from what I have read its limited by your system specs.
I thought mine were quite good, is there a way to improve preview?
Many thanks
Mike

Hi Mike
First of all we are experiencing some problems with the forum speeds, slow to navigate and posting is a problem, please be patient, pressing Submit once should be sufficient even though the page takes a while to refresh, this posting had 4 duplicates which I have deleted, well three of them.
Quite a few questions here so to get the ball rolling I will start in reverse order, project playback……
If you are using HD video files then you may benefit by using Smart Proxy, this created additional files which does improve playback.
Go to Settings -- Smart Proxy make sure Enable Smart Proxy is selected.
Adding a HD Video to the timeline should automatically create the proxy file, it can take some time to create these files which can be quite large.
For existing clips, right click and choose Create Proxy Files.
Bonus material, I assume you mean the Corel Guide Do-More downloads?
there are a few different types.
The Bonus Content download installs a folder to:-
C:\Users\Trevor\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\Bonus Content
These contain sample clips that are manually inserted to the library, create a new library page for these files.
The Template Downloads are for the Instant Projects and should show in the library – Instant Projects (second icon down)
Two however are Menu templates and increase the Burner modules Menu templates.
So which ones are you interested in, then we can discuss them individually.

As far as the bonus features which came with X8 Ultimate, the proDAD plug-ins, NewBlue filters and Boris should all appear in your FX library (see the FX button to the immediate right of the preview screen.)
As for Triple Scoop music, there was a lot of discussion when Corel changed from SmartSound. As I understand it, Pinnacle (now also owned by Corel) also uses Triple Scoop. Apparently it is indeed limited to the number of tracks which have been made for it. Personally I have never used it as I have a large collection of SmartSound discs which I use for my projects. I edit this music using SmartSound SonicFire Pro program instead of the QuickTracks module which came in previous versions of VS.
As for splitting clips, there is a scissors icon immediately below the preview screen under the far right corner... or do you mean something else?

Oh wow, thanks guys!
Re doubled postings, sorry about that, I got an error saying it had failed and to try again which I did before notifying as directed.
Seems ok now and thanks for sorting out my mess.
I never saw the scissors! much happier now
OK re proxy files, do these get deleted automatically at some point?
In regards to that, with Pinnacle I always used to clean out the C:\Users\All Users\Studio 12\Data\ folder.
Does Corel Have the same kind of folder I can periodically empty to save disk space?
Also, its a big installation, are there any space saving measure i can take, removal of set up files etc.
Great help, many thanks

Video Studio has several folders to hold some temp files, most of these are updated automatically.
The program uses a Working Folder (view F6 Preferences for its default location)
Most users create a separate working folder for each project, that way we can manage the files we use in a particular folder.
Taking a Snapshot for instance is saved to the “Working Folder”, a thumbnail placed in the library.
Burner Module – Share – Disc DVD has its own Working folder to hold temp files which may be required when burning a disc. Press F6 from the burner module.
Smart Proxy Folder Files, I think these are removed automatically if the project file (VSP) is deleted, I would have to double check on that.
Go to Settings Preferences Performance for the location of that folder.
Go to Settings – Proxy File Manager to view the files and remove if required.
And if playback suffers you can always create them again?
Setup files.
When we install the program files are extracted to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8 Setup Files
Then used to install the program.
The ultimate package setup are also saved here, my file is over 3 GB.
These files could be removed after installation, make sure you only remove SETUP Folder.
Corel do recommend keeping these for some update purposes, but I have deleted them without any issues???
