I am really getting sick of this product. I removed VideoStudio X7 when I wondered if the problems I am having were related to the fact that I never uninstalled the trial version to install the full version. I just put in a product key. Now I remember why. IT WILL NOT INSTALL. I have tried both the 32 bit and the 64 bit version. Both say they cannot find the file specified... the setup executable. Only they are looking in my temp folder instead of the folder that I unzipped all the files too...what is the point of using up the extra space? I suppose it tried copying all the files to the temp folder but of COURSE it cannot copy the file that is in use... I would really like to use the product I bought over 6 months ago. Would someone please help?
OH... and just in case someone wants to tell me to uninstall the trial version... I get the same problem when I try to uninstall that. The uninstaller doesn't work either for the exact same reason.

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio X7
I presume by the uninstaller you mean the windows unistaller - have you tried the Corel clean up tool
download the attachment - unzip it and run it - see if that helps

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio X7
I will try your download once I know the program will install (see below) but that will not solve the installation problem...
First of all, the windows uninstaller is not the issue. The "setup" program written by Corel is the issue here. No other setup I have ever seen makes multiple copies of the source files. This setup program keeps making copies of files that already exist in the temp folder and then tries to access the files in the temp folder; one of which does not copy; possibly because it is being used. As a programmer myself that seems rather pointless. (During an uninstall, copying the setup file itself makes any sense only if the program wants to delete the original). Regardless of the 'why', it needs to be fixed.
Honestly, I do not want to try removing the program unless I am certain that the program itself will re-install. Since the setup does nothing but copy unnecessary files so far I am not convinced that will happen.

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio X7
Hi
1 / You cannot install X7 again if the program is already installed.
2 / There is no repair option when running the installer
3 / Assuming there is no problems -- running the installation again will prompt you to un-install the program.
4 / The downloaded program file is a self extracting exe file (at least that’s what I call it)
5 / Running the download file will extract its contents to the hard drive, you should use the default location for these files. For earlier versions that was the %temp% folder. After installation these files were removed / deleted.
6 / For CVS X7 the installation files are saved here.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X7 Setup Files
After installing the program these setup files could be deleted by the user although Corel do recommend keeping the files, but I have removed them with no problems.
7 / uninstalling the program,
Do not run the installation file to uninstall. That will extract its content with the intention of installing the program.
I think is best from Programs and Features, although you can always run the Cleanup tool.

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio X7
I really don't think you are getting me. The "installer" doesn't run AT ALL!
And when I say "installer" I don't mean the file that I downloaded. I mean the "setup" executable that gets unzipped AND the version that is run from the previous install when I try to uninstall. All the setup file does is copy files and then crashes. It doesn't get the opportunity to check for an installation. It does not show any GUI. It doesn't matter where I run it from or if I have it run automatically after being unzipped or even if it runs from the control panel when I try to uninstall from the Programs and Features list. I am not personally running the setup program to uninstall. It is done automatically when I click on "uninstall." I have tried both the 32 and 64 bit version (I downloaded both). The files have already been extracted. I have already tried both extracting into my own folder and to the default folder. The result is always the same. The moment I click on the setup executable/or try to uninstall from the Programs and Features menu in the control panel I get this: This capture is of the crash that occurred when I tried uninstalling from "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel. Each time it happens it is a different GUID number. If I go to the folder mentioned, I find copies of ALL of the files from the unzip folder that I created (no matter where) EXCEPT the setup file. So all that happens is that the file when it is run is copy all the files to the temp folder and then it tries to run itself from the temp folder. That is all that ever happens. If I copy the setup.exe file manually to the folder mentioned it does the same thing in a different GUID location.
I have never been able to install this program in full. I am still running the trial version (with my key entered). So I either want this fixed, a free upgrade, or my money back. I really don't want to run the cleaner program unless I know the installation will actually work. At least not while I can work on other projects that don't require the reinstall.
EDIT: I am going to try the cleanup tool. I really don't think it will make a difference but if I can't install 7 I will install the trial version of 8 because I have reached the point above where I need VS to work. I am really getting tired of this.

Removing it worked. I guess I was wrong about that. It has not resolved my initial problem though

Re: Cannot install VideoStudio X7
Hi
I have been absent for a few days so apologies for my late reply.
I don’t know what state you are in, I assume you have run the Clean-up tool and that did remove X7.
The folder 17.0 in C:\Users\User Name \AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)
Should also be deleted, if it still exists, I am not sure if the clean-up tool actually deletes this folder
The old installation files saved to C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X7 Setup Files should be deleted by yourself.
Then try installing the purchase version of X7.
Install to the default location.
What actually happens?
