Glitchy video during playback and after rendering:

Post by josephbow6 »

Hey guys. I'm a novice at video editing and have barely any lingo down if there is any. I am somewhat computer savvy though and I can't figure out this problem. I imported video files from my GoPro Hero 3 (White Edition) and while playing the files back and even after rendering the video and audio down, the video bugs out and is very glitchy (the audio is very smooth the whole time through all songs). The video source files are great still and not corrupted. I can play them in VLC just fine and they are very smooth. The video files that I am using are stored on the main storage drive which is a Samsung 500GB SSD. The drive is extremely fast with everything else so I really doubt that it's the problem.

As I figure someone might ask, here's the properties information after right clicking on one of the videos in the file.

File format: MPEG-4 File
File Size: 355,938 KB (347 MB)
Duration: 192.259 seconds

Video Type: H.264 Main Profile Video
Total Frames:11,524 frame(s)
Attributes: 24 bits, 1280 x 720, 16:9
Frame Rate: 59.940 frames/sec
Data Rate: 15000 Kbps

Additionally, it is not just one or two of the videos that have been imported, it is all of them. I did recently reformat, install the new GPU, CPU, additional SSD, as well as upgrade from X7. After the reformat, I had to 're-link' all of my video and audio to the project. In X7 the only problem I would have was low frame rates during playback but that was also with the old slower hardware. Also, I turned on smart proxy but that didn't change anything. CPU and RAM are not even close to maxed out while playing or rendering. All hardware temperatures are normal (for what that's worth). The program is up to date and I'm pretty sure all my drivers are up to date. I have no issues while running graphic intensive games on max settings. I have also restarted the program and computer multiple times.

Was this too much information? ( :

In Preferences, have you ticked the box beside "Show message when inserting first video clip"? If so when you insert your first clip in X8 you should get a message asking if you want the Project Properties to match those of the clip, which you accept. Then you do your editing and playback should be smooth, especially on your i7. And when satisfied, you just go to Share > Same As Project Properties.

I do this all the time with the footage from my own Hero 3 Black Edition, and have never had any problems in playback, and excellent results in the output. And the computer on which I do it is an i3 ...

Thanks for the reply, Ken. I tried the suggestion with a new project and inserted one of the same video files I am using with the original project to test with. The first time I press play, the video plays just as it should. If I do anything to the video (even as simple as muting the videos audio) and try to play again, it is back to the glitchy look. If I don't do anything to the video but pause and try to play again, the program hangs and registers as 'not responding' in task manager for a while and then allows me to play it again. Do you think a fresh install of the program would do the trick?

When I pause it and try to play the video again, task manager states that Corel is 'Not Responding'. The program won't do anything for a bit and then kind of unlocks itself again. The rest of my programs and computer functions still work flawlessly during this program hang time and CPU and RAM usage is almost zero. Should I try a fresh install of the program? Maybe try installing the 32-bit version instead?

Also, I've not inserted my license key (I have one from X7 that should work fine according to Corel) yet because I can't figure out where in the trial download to install it. When I close the program, I only see the window that asks which version I want to buy, which then takes me online if I click one of the links. Where am I supposed to copy my serial number to?

Thanks again.

Hi

I am a little confused as to which version you have installed and whether it’s the trial version.
You mention X7.

If you have purchased X8 then you should have a separate serial number for that program. You should uninstall the trial version before installing X8.
You should save all your downloads along with the serial numbers / Activation numbers, I also burn them to a data disc as backup.

We do not simply upgrade X7 to X8, the entire new program for X8 has to be installed, we can install several versions of video studio on our pc’s but only run one at a time.

When we close the program if there is a newer version we will be pestered to purchase that, you should be able to disable via the messages preferences, if your lucky.

Program registration
Access the Corel Guide, one of those orange discs icons or maybe from the help menu.
Selecting the Do-More would request a registration, you should input the e-Mail address of your Corel account or the e-mail used to purchase/download the program
Otherwise go to your Corel Account and view your Registered products list.

Your Mpeg4 files, there are many different types and flavours of Mpeg4, some work fine with Video Studio whilst others give problems.
For X7 Corel did provide some fixes for Mov and MP4 types in the form of a DLL file as a replacement to the existing DLL.

Are you able to upload a sample to a sharing site, Google Drive or Microsoft one Drive would be good to use?

Hey, Lata. Thanks for the post.

I originally had X7 and purchased it about a year ago or less. Recently, after reformatting, I downloaded X8 because I think I remember reading somewhere that my same serial number will be good for 2 years worth of new editions, if they come out. The way I understand it is, the serial number is good for life but I can only get new versions with that serial number during that 2 year period. That's why I currently have the trial version of X8 on my newly built PC. I'll look for the registration process like you mentioned and then will likely do a clean install to see if that fixes the issue and then will post back.

You will therefore be very disappointed to learn that this has never been Corel policy, and I doubt that it will ever be... The serial number you have for X7 is only for X7 and will NEVER activate another version...

Hmm... Okay. Seems like I read somewhere that you could get the new program within two years if one came out. Something about an 'upgrade guarantee' or something. I guess that was something else. Maybe Melodyne that I use, I'll have to check.

Anyway, I finally heard back from Cleverbridge and they sent me new download links for X7 so I'll try those and hopefully my issues will be magically gone. I'll post back to let you know for sure.

Hi

The upgrade gives the purchaser a discount, so we pay a little less for having previous versions, I suppose that’s a loyalty reward, I believe that may be two previous versions, effectively two years.
Even so we are purchasing the full version, the installation is in full and does not affect the previous versions. Each version having its own unique serial numbers.

Project Files………
Another two years limit as such is the saving of VSP project files, those can be saved for the last two versions, so X7 projects can be opened using X6 and X5. As the program is released each year that two years duration.

Corel Fixes
Keep in mind the fix provided by Corel for some mp4 and mov files, I mentioned this earlier

Just to add to this, X7 project can be opened in the two previous versions if, if X7, when you save the project you select the X6 or X5 format. Some new effects in X7 which do not exist in the previous versions will, however, be lost.
