X8 SP1 wobbly
Now is the time of year when Service packs for the current version of VS are generally released, and I have been keeping an eye open (checking the support/updates pages of the Corel site) for it re X8.
I opened X8 to day and immediately (as in, even before the product splash screen displayed) got a notice that X8 SP 1 was available to install. The notice indicated that I may have to close the app to install it. Trying to install, I ran into 4 issues:
1. I could not close the X8 app to run the install without closing the installation options panel. Several different ways but same result. Pretty circuitous argument there.
2. Clicking to install with X8 open in the background, I got an error panel saying X7 (note - X7) was open - close to continue. Whereupon a repeat of item 1 occurs.
3. There's no X8 SP1 posted on the support downloads pages for VS as yet, so an independent download and install isn't feasible yet.
4. the process suggests that opening X8 has downloaded SP1 and stored it somewhere - but there's nothing like it in the normal downloads folder. A search on 'X8' turned up a bunch of known x8 files, but not anything titled remotely like X8 SP1
So, as carroll says - curiouser and curiouser.
Anyone else had this sort of chase your tail in several easy steps? Do we wait it out for the downloads site post or is there a more mundane solution?

Re: X8 SP1 wobbly
Hi David
I ran a Update check and found SP1 available to “Improve performance and stability”
This installed ok with VS X8 running, although forced a re-start of the pc.
The download file is called VSProX8_SP1.exe saved here:-
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Downloads
I do not know what affect this patch has to the program. New version number 18.1.0.9
There has also been a patch to fix Boris Graffiti install issues for quite a while
Along with a help file.
http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/support/updates/
Accessing the Patches and Updates is best done from the X8 purchase site.
Even though I did not have a problem I have already installed the Boris fix, that does not seem to change the version number.
I did not have a problem installing the patch.

Tnx for info,
Yesterday morning I looked at the update page and saw nothing new there, and I see SP1 file still not there.
I will wait, I don't like to update from within apps.

Re: X8 SP1 wobbly
Hi Trevor,
I normally check for updates via the main Corel page, support, patches and updates, Video studio ---> which leads here
http://howto.corel.com/en/c/VideoStudio ... nd_Updates
and here there is no mention of any update for X8. This supposedly formal access tree for X8 updates is not the same site you've linked to. Corel should fix that - make one or the other the only update site and provide correct links.
I did find the the X8 Sp1 file in one of the many numbers-named sub-trees of that folder you mentioned. To say it's confusing would be an understatement, and this screenshot shows why: Although why a windows search using key X8 did not find it is unusual - part names are often turned up during searches in my experience.
As to Boris, I recall the circumstances and downloaded the patches at the time. But thanks for the links - now I can keep my application updates folder current.

Re: X8 SP1 wobbly
Hi David / Asik
The Corel site is very poor, access to many downloads do not work, for instance the “knowledge base” may show a fix to download a DLL file, but again probably does not work.
The update pages, well there seems to be two, the older pages that you found and a newer version via the Products pages, This shows patches for X8 back to X5
Unfortunately as Asik says the new SP1 for X8 is not available for download only via the program, but then you could install at any time?
I assume the download will be available eventually? hopefully that will give the details of the patch and what it actually fixed?

Re: X8 SP1 wobbly
Well few hours ago, I booted to 7 in order to download it, but I did not run it.
I took it out of its directory and placed it in my VSX8 directory and run it.
X8 was still up so I got a massage asking to "close VSX7" ... so I did and run the exe.
Rerun X8 and first thing I went and check the "out of memory" error when pasting RTL text and Enter.
Well..... not corrected,
But... as now I write this, I'm on my XP boot after updating and I noticed that the error do not show if I do not Enter but just mouse click the workspace after the paste... ummm,
So go on guys try to find what was corrected and if it's of any good
P.S.
David , I deleted all the stuff from that corel tree you showed, I don't want massages and junk.

Re: X8 SP1 wobbly
All quite strange
Started X8 - checked current build status - still says 18.0.0.181
No prompt from VideoStudio regarding any update - from help manually told VS to check for updates - after a minute or so - "There are no updates available at this time"
Checked Trevors link - no updates to SP1 visible - to Corel.com - via support to Updates and patches - no update to SP1 visible
how come I can't see anything about a SP1 for X8

Re: X8 SP1 wobbly
Hi Brian
After reading the original post, I ran X8, from Help checked for updates and it found one.
I installed that as SP1 now the version number is 18.1.0.9
Just to clarify---- I cannot find any reference to X8 SP1 on their web site?

I get the same response as Brian when I click asik1's link
BTW, I tried to look at my registered products through my Corel account, all I get is a blank page. Anybody else get their product list?

Sorry, this was the link embedded when I downloaded the file from within X8.
I guess it's erroneous outside

Click on this link, click on Videostudio and then click on Support.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: X8 SP1 wobbly
FWIW, I had exactly the same experience as Trevor: checked for updates, and the SP was found and installed while X8 remained opened, but then requested that the computer be rebooted. The SP is still not available on the Corel website.
