VS X7 and Relink edits

Post by jaco1252 »

Sorry if this has already been covered, but didn't see it exactly in board search of VS.
Re-opened VSX7 after few days and vsp was there but ALL clips in library were not found (to my knowledge, NOTHING was moved or re-named!) The ONLY thing I did was add a new clip from a different C:\ folder. This should NOT cause ALL the other clips to be lost in space should it!? (WTF #1).
WTF #2: OK, then I do the re-link crap and VSX7 DOES find all the clips for the project, but ALL the edits are gone! Hours of work lost!? Is there any way to recover the edits? WHY would VSX7 lose all the edits (so I can avoid in the future). (NB: this HAS happened before, but not with such a time loss). If this is SOP for this software, it's fast dumpster bait.
Thanks/jaco

If the .vsp file has become corrupted, there is nothing you can do to retrieve your project. It is very important that every time you save a project, use "save as" and give a new name, this way you will always have a backup .vsp file that can be retrieved and .vsp files take up very little space as they are only a set of instructions.
As to why you have lost your data is a mystery, other users have reported the same/similar issues but it is very infrequent, something you have added or done or even just saving the project has caused the .vsp file to become corrupted.

Hi jaco1252

Are you sure you have not opened an older VSP without the edits as that would explain everything.

Open Video Studio, press File, the last 4 vsp’s used will be showing at the bottom of the list, immediately above the exit option.
Is your current project in that list. select the last project to open... repeat for the others
If no search your pc for other VSP’s.

At the moment I don’t have any other suggestion as to why this should have happened?

Thanks for all replies. To any interested, this is definitely the same project. All the PLACES for all my edits are there, but represented by blank white boxes. Within each of these white boxes there is the correct amount of (edited) time allocated for that clip, but playing the clip shows only a black screen. If I right click the white box and select "Replace Clip" (one of only a few options available) I only get an Explorer file selection screen with all the video clips (including the correct one). Selecting the correct clip inserts the FULL clip with none of the edits.
As mentioned, the ONLY thing I did with this project prior to the problem was add a clip to the library, not the timeline, (an .MTS file, all others are MP4) from a different C:/ folder. Obviously, this should not destroy all edits and links, but then again, this is Corel. The application seems awfully quirky for something that's been around for so long. I have only done three projects (15-75 min each), but every one had issues. My previous app for editing was Arcsoft Showbiz (could not work with MP4 files). It was nowhere near as glitchy as this.
It seems I'm stuck with starting over with all my edits, and then looking for new, better software. C'est La Vie.

Hi

This issue has been posted before, I cannot remember the outcome, nor whether the poster contacted Corel.

I certainly remember doing the replace clip, drag and drop from the library whilst holding CTRL key also replaces the clip, may be a little faster to do.

I’ll do a search to see if I can find the relevant post.
